A tight, low-scoring contest on a damp pitch saw Upminster CC edge past Gidea Park & Romford CC by 8 runs in a match defined by disciplined bowling, team work and middle-order contributions.

After losing the toss, Upminster were sent in to bat first under overcast skies on a wet surface. The early movement and sluggish outfield made scoring difficult, and wickets fell at regular intervals. However, Upminster’s innings was studied by a solid partnership between Henry Madsen (20 off 23) and James Smith-Allen (27 off 37), who occupied the crease with patience and rotated the strike well to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Despite no batter going on to a big score, Upminster managed to score 114 for 6 in their assigned overs, a total that looked modest but potentially competitive given the conditions and great team work by all at Upminster.

In reply, Gidea Park began cautiously but struggled to build momentum. Upminster’s bowlers kept things extremely tight, with standout performances from Aidan Leung, who bowled 2 overs for just 4 runs and also got a wicket, and Cameron Thorogood, who returned impressive figures of 2 overs, 6 runs. Their control and consistency in the middle overs played a key role to keep Gidea Park & Romford under control.

Despite a few late efforts, Gidea Park fell short, finishing on 106 for 7, unable to break free from the shackles imposed by Upminster’s bowlers.
