A second consecutive century from Billy Sheridan helped Upminster to a convincing win over Orsett and Thurrock in the Brian Taylor Trophy on Sunday.

Upminster captain William Peck won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry and unpredictable wicket at School Lane. Peck and opening partner Sheridan proceeded to strike many boundaries as they piled up 76-0 from the opening five overs of the match. They continued to look in fine form as they brought up a hundred partnership. Peck was first to reach his half century, shortly followed by Sherdian, as they continued to add to the already large total. Having added another 22 runs Peck was then dismissed for 72 thanks to a good catch. Harrison Simpson replaced Peck at the crease and looked confident and willing to continue the flurry of boundaries. Sheridan kept on scoring runs and soon reached his century, his second in two Brian Taylor matches after his first against Hutton last weekend. Having reached 106 Sherdian then retired which brought Jack Butler to the crease. Simpson continued to score runs alongside Butler and Upminster finished on 266-1 from their 25 overs. Simpson finished on 43 not out and Butler finished on 10 not out.

Upminster took to the field with confidence as they tried to protect their score of 266. Ano Chifamba opened the bowling and got the first wicket with just the second ball of the opening over. In his second over Chifamba got his second wicket, which was caught behind by Peck. The next wicket came when a catch was dropped and the ball was fielded by Sheridan who produced a direct hit to run out Orsett batter Harry Hymas. In his first over Johnny Johal steamed in to take the fourth wicket of the innings as he bowled the Orsett batter. Johal then repeated the trick in the same over, bowling another Orsett batter for the fifth Upminster wicket. The next wicket came from Elliot Russell thanks to a stunning diving catch from Stefan Stander which made the score 37-6. George Middlemiss was next to strike when he turned one on to the stumps to leave Orsett seven down. In his second over Middlemiss delivered a good ball which led to Peck stumping the Orsett batter. Four balls later Middlemiss stepped up to take another wicket when he bowled the Orsett batter to leave them with just one wicket in hand. Orsett's last pair proceeded to put together the biggest partnership of the innings (28) before Stefan Stander bowled the last man as Orsett were all out for 77 as Upminster won by 189 runs. Upminster's last game of the Brian Taylor Trophy group stage will be against Bentley.
