After two seasons heavily interrupted by Covid and the appalling weather, the Windmill Whack will be rejuvenated for the 2022 season with a full redraft of squads, and a sixth franchise added to the competition.
Thursday night at the clubhouse (from 7.00pm) will see all six franchises put their squads together as the captains bid to get the players they crave.
Last year's winners, the Apple Finance Firebirds, will be led in 2022 by 1st XI wicket-keeper Kiran Kullar. Franchise owner, Kevin Heazle, a supporter of the event since its foundation in 2016, will be hoping Kullar can put together a team capable of retaining the trophy.
Experienced clubman Anthony Limn will take charge of the Hunter Hurricanes for the second successive season. Limn will have built up some vital experience during last year's competition and the club's main sponsors, Hunter & Co. will be hoping that experience can help take their side all the way to Finals Day.
It's all change for the Chairman's Choice, as owner Ollie Peck looks outside the box and brings in Craig Grote as skipper. Grote will be sure to have some fresh ideas for the most successful franchise in the competition's history, but the new six team format will provide a stern test for the new man at the helm.
Another side who have been in the tournament every year since its inception are the Govani Maestros, and Ehsan Afzal will lead them for 2022. Franchise owner Liquat Govani has seen his side make Finals Day on a number of occasions and he will want Afzal to put together a squad capable of making that happen again.
The Kushoom Bugh Tigers are often the great enigmas of the Whack, but they may be taking a different approach in 2022 with Head Coach Scott Simmons being appointed as captain. Kushoom Bugh proprietors Rass and Kallam are great supporters of the Whack and always keen to welcome the squad for post match refreshments, so Simmons may be a popular man ahead of the Draft.
For 2022 we then welcome our newest franchise, the Elite Eagles. The Eagles are sponsored by Elite Finishing, and will be captained by Elite's owner and club stalwart Daniel Tyler. Elite Finishing have more than 25 years of experience in spray painting, and specialise in all aspects of interior and exterior projects. Everyone at the Club would like to welcome Elite on board and thank Daniel for his generous support.
Players will be in three categories for tomorrow night's Draft, The Stars, The Players and The Pups (U16s and below). Captains will bid for a number of players from each category to make up their squads. Please keep an eye on the club's social media accounts throughout the evening for squad announcements.
There will also be a number of drinks offers running through the evening for those in attendance, including jugs of Blue and Gold for £10 and 4 bottles of Coors Light for £10.
Friday night will see the Draft Night for the Windmill Whack Women's Edition III take place, and full details for this event will be available tomorrow.
