The Berry family take over at the top

After two weeks of walking, running and other activities (more of that later), the Berry family, as team "Milo Won't Be Happy" lead the way in Windmill Walk II.

The Walk is seeing club members in teams of five walk from Brisbane to Adelaide, on to Melbourne, up to Sydney and then out to Hobart as they recreate England's Ashes journey from 2021/2022 (all virtually of course, not in person).

The Berrys have so far covered 890 kilometers and are nearly halfway to the first checkpoint in Adelaide. Not far behind are "The Better Halves" who were quick out of the blocks and led for much of the first week, and "The Vets", thanks in the main to John Ford who has covered the most individual distance. Currently in fourth spot are "The Heavy Steppers", although it is a shame that one of their team members seemed to forget over the weekend that the event is a walking/running/stepping challenge and not a re-creation of Le Tour De France. This mis-understanding unsurprisingly went unpunished by the competition organisers!!

All other teams are yet to make it out of Queensland, but some individuals are putting in outstanding performances. John Ford leads the way with over 450k of steps, while Matt Chapman is in second place on the individual table with 355k of steps so far. Our 2023 captains don't seem to be in the groove yet, with only 5s skipper Aalok Latey having gone through the 200k step barrier and Nicky Ison in second place on 145k.

The Walk is of course about having some fun and getting members active ahead of the new season, but it would also be great to raise some funds on the journey!! Anyone taking part wanting to make a donation, or anyone not taking part but wanting to sponsor someone in the event or just wanting to make a donation, can do so at the link below. All funds raised will be split evenly between the Club and the local NHS Charity Trust.
