With the new season nearly here, we continue our catch-up with our senior captains for 2026. Over the coming days we will continue checking-in with the 11 players who will be leading our senior sides this summer. We’ll hear about their plans for the months ahead, what games they are looking forward to and what they have been up to over the winter months.
We’ve heard from seven of our skippers so far, and now we hear from someone who is continuing in their role for a third season in 2026, Women’s 2nd XI captain Angela Green.
This is your third season in the role. How much are you looking forward to the season??
I can’t wait for the season to get started!! I’m looking forward to 2026 and continuing the development of the girls in the squad. It’s been really good to see many of them moving into Zoe’s team (the 1st XI) and regularly featuring in the 100 Cup games too. It’ll be interesting to see how the squad adapt to the longer format (as it moves from 30 to 35 overs) on a weekly basis, but it also makes that jump into the 1s a bit easier (Division 1 play 40 overs).
After promotion in 2024 the side battled hard last year to maintain their status. How pleased were you with how the season ended??
Last year was a tough one for the 2nd XI but we managed to avoid relegation and that was great. We had new girls breaking into women’s cricket for the first time and some of the softball women willing to give the EWPL (hardball) a go if I was short of a player (or two!!).
The girls always battled hard and we were just on the wrong side of a couple of really close games, with some being decided in the last over. So, I’m delighted that we managed to keep our place in Division 2, and we know what needs to be done this year to improve our finishing position.
You have a new vice-captain this year with Georgia Hayes coming in. What will Georgia bring to the role??
Georgia will be a great addition to the team bringing her experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the games. Her presence both on and off the pitch is always noticeable, she is so supportive of others and a great role model to the girls.
In the last few years, the side has been a good mix of youngsters and older heads. Will that be the same again this year??
We’re hoping to have a bit more stability in the 2s this year but will continue to use the team to develop our younger players and get them through the pathway. It’s always handy to have a few ‘older heads’ in the side to encourage the girls and keep morale up during tough games but yes, a mix of youth and experience is the ideal scenario.
How has pre-season been going and what have you been up to through the rest of the winter??
Winter training has been going well with lots of women and girls attending at Campion.
Last year I was approached by the Hockey Club and was asked to take on the captaincy of the Women’s 6s, which took a bit of convincing but eventually I agreed to. So, I’ve been busy running that and playing hockey, with the usual ongoing cricket recruitment along the way!!
I’ve also played a few indoor games at Chelmsford and had a few 1-2-1 sessions with Paul Hurworth to set some personal goals this year (for the first time!!) alongside the team ones.
