County competitions quarter-final and semi-final to take place on Sunday

It promises to be a memorable day at Upminster Park this Sunday (11th), as the club hosts two County competition knockout games.

At 9.30am, our U14s will face Chingford in the quarter-final of the Sir Alastair Cook Trophy. It is the first time the club has reached the knockout stages of this competition, having topped a somewhat disjointed Group 3 in the first round. Chingford topped Group 8 of the first round, with three wins out of three.

Then at 1.00pm, the U16s welcome Wanstead and Snaresbrook for what should be a thrilling contest in the Matchplay semi-final. Upminster reached this stage of the competition by winning Group 3 before beating Newham in their quarter-final, while Wanstead won Group 6 in the first round before winning an exciting game against Shenfield in the last eight. Upminster have reached the final of the Matchplay twice, in 1996 and 2007, and also made it to the last four in 2019 before losing to Saffron Walden. Wanstead have been one of the dominant forces of the Matchplay over the last ten years, and both sides will be hoping to reach the final at the County Ground on Friday 23rd August.

The club is also looking forward to the climax of the Central District Board competitions with FIVE of our sides having reached the finals of the nine cup competitions. Our U12s will be the first in cup final action when they take on Brentwood at Upminster Park on Sunday 1st September (1.00pm). A week later (Sunday 8th) it is Central Finals Day at Gidea Park and Romford CC, and this day will see our U11s and U15s in action, with our younger side taking on Springfield and our older squad taking on Harold Wood (both games at 2.00pm). Meanwhile our U17s and U15 Girls sides are also through to their Central Finals. In the U17s Harold Wood will provide the opposition, while the U15 Girls will face Hutton (date, time and venues for these two games to be confirmed).
