It was a tough afternoon for our women's sides with both the 1s and 2s suffering defeats, although the 2nd XI contest at Upminster Park was a high-scoring thriller.
The 1st XI travelled to Wanstead & Snaresbrook still having a mathematical chance of claiming the title and a realistic chance of finishing in second place but it was the home side who won the toss and decided to bat, and they made full use of a good pitch. Opener Zaynah Rehman smashed 83 from 70 deliveries while Millie Rawlins compiled a half century as Wanstead moved towards a big score. Keya Patel and Anjali Mistry added some late runs to the total and although the Goodeys (Alexandra with 2-35 and Harri with 3-29) bowled well to keep their side in it, Wanstead will have been happy with their total of 288-6. Harri Goodey and Paige Roche got the Upminster reply off to a good start before Felicity Russell and Dani Cox put on 80 for the fourth wicket to put their side in a good position. Russell brought up her half century but shortly after Cox fell for 31 and when Russell went for 67 Upminster had gone from 155-3 to 171-5. Things didn't get any better as the final five wickets then fell for just 16 runs as Upminster were bowled out for 187.
At Upminster Park the Women's 2nd XI played out a high-scoring thriller with Kelvedon & Feering before eventually losing by just 19 runs. Upminster decided to bowl first but they may have been regretting that decision as Kelvedon openers Claudia Foulds and Emma Honey piled up the runs. Honey fell to Jemma Creswell for 55 but Foulds went on to make 115 before becoming one of two victims of Maisie Coles (2-19). Upminster fought back late in the innings with Coco Thomas picking up two wickets, but the visitors' total of 236-5 from 35 overs was a big one. Thomas and Georgia Hayes got the Upminster reply off to a flying start as they put on 111 for the first wicket in just 15 overs. Hayes went for 44 and Thomas fell for 26, but Upminster didn't crumble and Mila Price and Claudia Brunt kept their side in the hunt. With the visitors contributing 62 extras to the Upminster total the run rate required remained high as Price and the home side closed in on a famous win. Brunt went for 29 but Price continued and went past 50 as Upminster went beyond 200 with the required run rate for the last five overs at 15. Unfortunately it was just too much for Upminster, and despite Price finishing unbeaten on a brilliant 65 they ended on 236-5 to lose by 19 runs.
The Sunday League XI had been due to face Bardoli in their latest Sunday League contest but the opposition had to concede and Upminster therefore gained the points and went second in the table.
In the day's junior games there was a win for the U14 Ultras alongside losses for the U9 Ultras, U11 Ultras and U13 Ultimate.
