Triumphs for Women's 1s and 2s and big crowd at Upminster Park

It was a brilliant day for the club with the Women's 1st and 2nd XIs both picking up excellent victories. At Billericay, the 1st XI recorded one of their best results since joining Division One as they secured a six wicket win which moves them into the title race. Upminster won the toss and decided to bowl and the home side made a solid start to their innings. All of the top six made double figures but Upminster took wickets at regular intervals to keep the scoring rate in check. At 152-4 the home side would have been looking to push on towards a big score but a fine spell from Alex Goodey pegged them back. Goodey picked up 3-39 and her efforts helped restrict Ricay' to 175-7. Harri Goodey and Paige Roche got the Upminster reply off to an excellent start but they both fell in quick succession and when skipper Zoe Quested went soon after it was the home side who were very much on top. Felicity Russell remained at the crease and was given support by Dani Cox and they put on 31 for the fourth wicket. When Cox fell the home side would have felt they were back on top but Russell and Emma Black had other ideas. The pair kept the run rate required under control with some excellent running between the wickets and they found the boundary when needed as Upminster gradually got on top. 35 were needed off the final seven overs and both players then brought up their half centuries as Upminster closed in on victory. Victory was then secured with an over to spare, Rusell finishing unbeaten on 57 and Black ending 61 not out.

A remarkable spell from Jami Armes took the 2nd XI to victory over Orsett & Thurrock at Coopers. Armes took 5-9 as Orsett collapsed from 36-2 and 74-5 to 83 all out with Eliza Winckless making 32 for the visitors before being one of Armes' victims. Of course, it wouldn't be Upminster without a nervous run chase, and this game was no different as the home side fell to 55-4. Armes though was in fine form with bat as well as ball and she stood firm to keep Upminster on track with skipper Angela Green also adding crucial runs. Armes fell for 32 to set nerves jangling once more but Green saw her side to the winning line as Upminster won by four wickets.

A big crowd of familiar and old faces was at Upminster Park as the Matchplay 96 squad took on a Vice Presidents & Ex Players XI to mark 30 years since the club's first appearance in the Matchplay Final. The Vice Presidents' XI batted first and there were runs for skipper Nicky Ison, Steve Mack, Ian Adams and Jeff Mack as they totalled 188-7 from their 30 overs with Kevin Roome claiming 3-17.  In reply Rob Waghorn and Steve Wright were in good form for the Matchplay XI and there were also good contributions from Ollie Peck, Phu Ly and Rob O'Brien but four wickets for Rob Mack saw the Vice Presidents' XI to a 23 run win.

There were also a number of junior games throughout the day with the standout performance being the U12s win over Hutton in the Brian Taylor Trophy with 59 from Elliot Peck and four wickets for Michael Hortop.
