Women exit 100 Cup and WW XI gets underway

Upminster's Women's 1st XI missed out on a place in the EWPL 100 Cup final as they lost at Kelvedon & Feering by 21 runs on Sunday afternoon. Emma Black made her debut for Upminster and picked up an early wicket and with Alex Goodey (3-5) also producing a fine opening burst the home side found themselves in trouble at 25-4. Isabelle Thomas and Erina McSweeney added 50 for the fifth wicket, with Thomas dominating the partnership, but she was trapped in front by Lois Gable for 42 as Upminster seized control again. Black and Harri Goodey then ran through the tail as the home side were bowled out for 109, with 16 of the 100 deliveries not used. Zoe Quested and Jami Armes made a good start to the Upminster reply and Harri Goodey then added 24 off 21 to keep Upminster in the game. However, Kelvedon bowled with great discipline, only conceding 14 extras as opposed to the 32 Upminster conceded, and despite 20 not out from Gable the visitors could only make 88 as they lost by 21 runs.

Back at Upminster Park the 11th edition of the Windmill Whack got underway with three games taking place. The early game saw a youthful Mullis & Peake Monarchs side put in a solid all-round performance to see off the Griffin Grandmasters by 22 runs before the Govani Maestros got their campaign off to a winning start as they saw off the Kushoom Bugh Tigers. The Tigers then played their part in an extraordinary late game in which 29 wickets fell!! The Tigers made 154-17 for a net score of 18, before the BrewDog Braves replied with 186-12 for a net score of 90 and a 72 run win.

There were also a number of junior games throughout the day with wins for the U11 Girls, U10 Ultras and U13 Ultras (x2) and losses for the U8 Ultras, U9 Ultras, U11 Ultras, U14 Ultimate and U17 Ulltras. Meanwhile the U9 Girls took part in a KWIK Cricket Festival at neighbours Harold Wood where they won one game, lost two and also played in an exciting tie.
