The Women's 2nd XI lost for the first time this season as Wanstead & Snaresbrook took the honours in Sunday's EWPL Division 2 match at Coopers. Upminster skipper Angela Green won the toss and asked Wanstead to bat and she then had to wait a long time for her side to make a breakthrough as Ritisha Khandelwal (43) and Saanvi Zutshi (67) put on 81 for the first wicket. Both openers were run out as Upminster fought back but middle order contributions from Victoria Derbyshire, Anushka Solanki and Lucinda Foster helped take the visitors to a very healthy total of 255-4 from their 35 overs, with Green claiming 2-64. Jami Armes got the Upminster chase off to a good start with 28, and Karen Burley and Holly Minney kept things moving in the middle order, but two wickets each for Zutshi and Farah Shamin pegged Upminster back, and they were never able to recover. Jemma Creswell struck some late boundaries as Upminster showed plenty of fight but they were all out for 131.
At Upminster Park the Sunday League XI made it three wins from three with a convincing win over neighbours Harold Wood. Wood won the toss and decided to bat but they were immediately on the back foot as Jamie Green struck early on. It was then over to Fenton Everingham who produced a brilliant spell of 4-24 to rip out the rest of the Wood top order. The spin duo of Lewis Munn and Michael Pedrick then claimed two wickets each and when Wood fell to 82-9 a very early finish looked in prospect. However, the visitors' last pair of Bradley Ayling and Thambiraja Guganesh showed great spirit as they put on 57 for the tenth wicket to take their total to 139 before man of the moment Patrick Gulvin came on to finish things off. Stan Moore and Kiran Kullar got the Upminster chase off to a fast start as they put on 79 in 11 overs before Moore fell, and when Kullar and George Sherdian went soon after there may have been a few nerves in the Upminster ranks, but Liam Robertson and Zoran Suneel were not worried. The fourth wicket pairing calmly knocked off the remaining runs without any further drama as Upminster won by seven wickets.
There were also a number of junior games taking place throughout the day. The U14 Ultras produced an excellent all round performance to beat Hutton by ten wickets in their opening Sir Alastair Cook Trophy contest at Upminster Park, while just down the road the U14 Ultimate also picked up a win as they overcame Galleywood by seven wickets in the Central League. The U12 Ultras beat Writtle by 54 runs in the Central Cup while the U11 Girls beat Harold Wood by 38 runs.
