There used to be a time when the club's batters would register five centuries across a season, but two more on Sunday, to add to the three on Saturday, meant a remarkable FIVE were hit across this Bank Holiday weekend (and there are still some games to be played on Monday).
At Castle Park the Women's 1st XI went to the top of the Division One table with a fine win over Colchester & East Essex. Keya Shah (2-37) and Lois Gable (2-39) produced excellent spells to put Upminster on top, but a brilliant fourth wicket stand between Kiri Samaranayake and Rebecca Neill started to turn things Colchester's way. Neill fell for 30 before Samaranayake brought up her ton as the home side moved towards 200. However, Dani Cox removed Samaranayake for 109 as Upminster foughtback and the home side ended on 207-6 to seemingly leave the game in the balance. Paige Roche fell early in the Upminster reply but Harri Goodey and Felicity Russell got the chase moving with an excellent second wicket stand. They added 70 to put Upminster on top and when Russell fell for 34 it was skipper Zoe Quested who gave good support to Goodey. Goodey reached 50 as her and the captain kept Upminster on track and with the home attack beginning to wilt the opener put her foot down to take her side towards the finish line. Goodey reached three figures from 94 balls, and although she fell shortly after for 103 the work had been done and with Quested ending on 40 not out Upminster won by six wickets with more than overs to spare.
Meanwhile at Upminster Park the Sunday League XI also went to the top of the table thanks to an astonishing innings from Callum Berry against Canvey Kingfisher. Berry blasted a remarkable 197 from just 89 balls, striking 23 fours and 11 sixes as Upminster piled up a massive total. Berry shared stands of 190 with George Sheridan (50) and 82 with Gus Philpot (41) and looked set to break the club's all time top score record (PlayCricket era) when he was trapped in front just three short of a double century. Liam Robertson (61*) and Stan Moore (67) continued the attack after Berry's dismissal and the Upminster innings finally closed on 432-4. Lewis Munn struck early in the Canvey reply before Berry continued his busy afternoon with an excellent run out as the visitors found themselves 6-2. Zahid made an excellent 88 before being dismissed by Fenton Everingham and Jamie Green claimed 3-20 as the visitors were all out for 211.
The Women's 2nd XI kept up their good start to the season with a nerve-wracking win over Benfleet at Coopers. Captain Angela Green dismissed the dangerous Louise Mabey on her way to excellent figures of 4-18 but Benfleet recovered from 62-7 to reach 107-7 thanks to runs from Rebecca Walker and Beatrice Currie. Jami Armes came into the attack and claimed 2-26 to help bowl out the visitors for 115, and veteran Emma Noller then combined with Alex Semon to get the Upminster reply off to a brilliant start. The pair put on 83 for the first wicket as Upminster appeared to be cruising to victory, but when Noller fell for 39 panic set in and a collapse ensued. Only Karen Smith reached double figures from the remaining batters as the home side fell to 112-8 before Green and Lauren Plumb held their nerve to see their side to a two wicket win.
There were also some excellent performances from our junior sides on Sunday morning with the Under 13 Girls leading the way with a brilliant win over Hutton in the National Cup. Sophia Dansie made a brilliant 90 not out from just 64 balls as Upminster made 158-3, and although Naomi Thurston replied with an excellent unbeaten 74 Upminster squeezed home by just two runs with Mila Price claiming 4-20. There was also a win for the U13 Ultimate against Rainham and a loss for the U8 Ultimate against Bentley.
