The Women's 2nd XI were the first side to register a competitive win for the club this summer when they picked up a five wicket win at Hutton on Sunday with a fine all round performance. Captain Angela Green won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Polo Ground, and Green herself picked up two early wickets which alongside a run out and a wicket for Lauren Plumb helped reduce the home side to 22-4. Bethan Bailey and Eloise Stark rebuilt for Hutton but Jemma Creswell made the breakthrough when she dismissed Stark and Toni Woodgate then picked up her first wicket of the season as Upminster regained control. Bethan Libby and Jami Armes claimed a wicket apiece before Plumb returned to the attack to end the innings by dismissing Bailey for 38 as Hutton were bowled out for exactly 100. Charlotte Willoughby shocked the Upminster batting line up at the start of the chase with a three wicket burst as the visitors fell to 24-3 but opener Jami Armes kept her head and found good support from Coco Thomas. Thomas fell for 13 with the score on 45 but Holly Minney continued the good work as she and Armes took their side towards victory. It looked like the two batters were taking their side to the winning line before Minney fell for 14 but any nerves in the rest of the Upminster batting line-up were calmed by Armes who struck two boundaries to take her side to the brink of victory and she then brought up her half century with just three needed for the win. The honour of hitting the winning run was left to Plumb as Upminster made a fine start to their Division Two campaign.
That victory was followed a couple of hours later by a brilliant win for the Sunday League XI at Roding Valley where Gus Philpot continued his fine run of form with a brilliant century. New skipper Ollie Burley won the toss and decided to bowl first and all of his bowlers performed well to keep the Valley batters in check. Lewis Munn continued his excellent weekend with 3-40 and the skipper himself bowled well to claim 3-14, one wicket coming courtesy of an excellent catch from keeper Alfie Taplin. The home side batted consistently all the way down the order, with six players making double figures and Abdul Munim's 34 being the top score as they closed on 194-9 from their 40 overs. The Upminster reply didn't start well as they slipped to 26-3 before Philpot joined George Shreidan in what would be a match-defining partnership. Sheridan once again showed great patience and concentration while Philpot was immediately into his stride with some early boundaries. Philpot brought up his half century in 52 balls but with the partnership at exactly 100 Sheridan fell for 40 to leave the game back in the balance. Three further wickets fell in quick succession and with Upminster 144-7 the home side were slight favourites, but Philpot remained to give Upminster hope. Jamie Green gave Philpot good support and it wasn't long before the in-form batter brought up three figures as Upminster closed in on victory. Green struck two boundaries to take Upminster close to the winning line and he was the man to strike the winning runs as they won by three wickets with three overs to spare and Philpot ending on 116 not out from 101 balls.
The Girls Under 13s put in an excellent performance in their opening fixture in the Cordelia Griffith Cup before eventually losing out to Bancroft Lions. Ciara Taylor and Emillia Hooper both reached double figures for Upminster as they battled to a total of 51. Celine Leung took two wickets for Upmunster in the Lions' reply, and there was also bowling success for Hooper and Elizabeth Charity, but the Lions recovered from 27-4 to win by two wickets.
