Ones exit Conference Cup against strong Bexley side

Upminster went out of the Conference Cup on Sunday after being well beaten by a strong Bexley side at Upminster Park.  Bexley have made a good start to their season in the Kent Premier Division so Upminster knew they would be in for a tough afternoon.  Bexley won the toss and chose to bat first, but it was the home side who made a fast start when Jamie Green had opener Leo Selvey-Clinton caught behind for 0.  Calum Basey and Harry Turner didn't let the early wicket affect them though, and they soon had the scoreboard moving as they found the boundary regularly and ran well between the wickets.  Basey brought up his half century and then really put his foot down to bring up three figures in a flash.  He was eventually trapped in front by Green for 115 from just 77 balls.  With Basey gone it was Turner who then became the aggressor, and he to made three figures before being well caught by Ross Taylor for 106.  Bexley continued to show their depth though, with Ben Aldred hitting thirteen boundaries and one huge maximum over long-on.  Aldred looked set to become the third centurion of the afternoon before youngster Ollie Clarke had him LBW for 98.  Jamie Batten struck some late boundaries for Bexley and they eventually finished on 369-5 from their 45 overs.

Kiran Kullar and Mo Ahmad got Upminster's reply off to a solid start before Kullar was caught behind off the bowling of Batten and Oliver Smith then sent back Callum Berry and Ross Taylor to leave Upminster in trouble.  Ahmad remained though, and he was joined by Philopt who looked in good touch.  Philpot took a liking to the spin of Louie James, but just after drinks was well caught for 31 at wide long-on by Fraser McWhinnie to give Smith his third wicket. James may have taken some punishment from Philpot but he then proceeded to run through the rest of the line up.  Ahmad went for 45, bowled by the leg spinner, and Upminster then crumbled somewhat as they were bowled out for 120.  We wish everyone at Bexley all the best in the next round.
