The Women's 2nd XI produced their best display of the season to pick up an impressive win at Wanstead and Snaresbrook. Their performance, and the result, emulated their male counterparts who picked up a brilliant win against the same opposition on Saturday. Wanstead chose to bat first at Nutter Lane but Lauren Plumb produced a brilliant three wicket burst to put Upminster on top. Wanstead's wicket keeper Foster steadied the ship for the home side and made a brilliant 61 from 58 balls to get her team back into the game. Foster received good support from Srikanth and Sian but Alexandra Goodey claimed two wickets for Upminster as they came back well in the closing overs, and Wanstead eventually ended on 180-7 from their 30 overs. Goodey started the Upminster reply in fine style and she received good support from Emma Noller and Jemma Creswell as the visitors played themselves into a good position. At 62-3 the game was in the balance, but Goodey remained and combined well with Kara Smith. The pair put together an excellent partnership of 93 and kept the required run rate under control as Upminster sensed their second league win of the season. Goodey brought up her half century as Upminster closed in on their target, but Smith fell for 35 and Goodey then followed for 59 as Wanstead kept alive their own hopes. Caitlin Smith and Angela Green kept their nerve and reduced the target to 17 from two overs and then 10 were required from the last which saw Smith strike two boundaries and then scramble two from the fifth delivery to take Upminster to a five wicket win.
The 1st XI fell to a defeat against their Wanstead counterparts at Upminster Park. Wanstead decided to bat first on a flat looking track and Deetya Padala got her side off to a good start with 53 at the top of the order. Upminster kept the visitors' run rate under control in the first half of the innings, but Momina Khalid and Keya Patel started to move things along quickly in the second half. Khalid made 94 from 76 before being dismissed by Upminster skipper Zoe Quested and Patel made an unbeaten 60 as Wanstead reached 301-5 from their 40 overs, with Quested claiming 2-36. Upminster's openers weren't daunted by the task ahead and Harriet Goodey (44) and Felicity Russell (46) put on a century stand at nearly a run a ball to keep their side in the game, before both players fell with the total on 112. Quested and Lois Gable continued the fight though, and although the run rate required crept to nearly nine an over Upminster were still in the game as the contest entered its final ten overs. Gable was run out for 25 and Quested followed for 48 as Upminster fell to 219-7, and although a victory then was unlikely Coco Thomas and Jami Armes battled to the end as Upminster finished on a more than respectable 247-7.
The Sunday League XI fell to a defeat against Waltham in an entertaining contest at Coopers School. Asim Aslam (88) and Essam Asim (95) put together an excellent second wicket stand for Waltham to lead them towards a big total before Fahad Mahmood made a late 34 not out as Waltham ended on 275-4. Jamie Green picked up 2-43 for Upminster. Kiran Kullar (59) and George Sheridan (42) got the Upminster reply off to an excellent start and Callum Berry then continued his outstanding weekend with a brilliant innings of 82 from 41 balls as he moved his side into an excellent position. Unfortunately when Berry went the rest of the batting fell away and Sajid Hussain claimed 6-30 as Upminster were bowled out for 228.
