Wet and miserable day but 4s pick up important win

It was a wet and miserable afternoon for the majority of the club's sides, with six of the nine scheduled senior matches abandoned without a ball being bowled, including the 1st XI's local derby with Gidea Park & Romford at Upminster Park.

Three games did get started, and lasted varying amounts of time, with the 7th XI's game against Rayleigh Fairview being abandoned after 3.3 overs with Upminster on 11-0. The 5th XI's contest at top of the table Westcliff on Sea went a lot further, with the whole of the first innings being completed. Upminster won the toss and asked Westcliff to bat and Rob Evans struck early to put Upmiinster on top. However, a second wicket stand between Thomas Belton and Deep Tanwar turned things around for the home side and appeared to put Westcliff in control. Three quick wickets from Lewis Munn, Ian Munn and Ollie Clarke put the game back in the balance before an excellent fifth wicket stand put Westcliff firmly on top. Amandeep Ajmani made 62 not out and George Sanders 56 not out as Wetcliff completed their 40 overs on 233-4. Unfortunately the rain became heavier during the break between innings and the Upminster  chase was never able to begin as the game was abandoned.

However, at Coopers the combination of excellent drainage and the ground missing the worst of the weather meant the 4th XI were able to pick up a brilliant win over Wanstead & Snaresbrook and extend their lead at the top of the table. Seth Guy-Knapp made 50 for Wanstead before 54 lower down the order from Nikhil Patel helped take the visitors to a competitive 184-9. After the rain relented at the end of the break between innings Upminster were able to begin their chase, and Ethan Berry and Steve Limn started in positive fashion with Berry timing the ball well down the ground and Limn producing a number of trademark cuts and pulls. The partnership was in the 90s in just the 12th over when Berry fell and Aedan Daly was then trapped in front soon after as Wanstead fought back. The drizzle appeared to be getting heavier as the 20 over mark neared and Limn then brought up his half century with two through mid-on as Upminster stayed on top. At 138-2, and with the rain now easing again, Upminster appeared to be coasting to victory, but Limn's departure was followed by that of captain Matt Ingleson and Upminster began to look a little nervous. Harry Lawes was well caught down the leg side and Ollie Hinton and Fenton Everingham soon followed as Upminster fell to 159-7 to leave the game very much in the balance. Rob Mack remained at the crease though, and the veteran received good support from Dylan Narbheram as the pair kept their nerve to get Upminster back on track. Narbheram played some lovely shots through mid-wicket while Mack found the gaps down the ground as Upminster won by three wickets with more than five overs to spare.
