Everyone at Upminster Cricket Club was saddened to hear of the passing last weekend of one of the club's Vice Presidents, Peter Hurley.
Peter had become a familiar face at Upminster over the last 25 years, but had unfortunately been unwell in recent times, and his appearances at the club had sadly been limited. It was as lines-person for the Upminster All Stars Football Club that Peter first became involved with the cricket club. Back in the 90s and early 00s a number of Upminster members, and members of many other local cricket clubs, played Sunday morning football for the All Stars, and as the club's line-person Peter got to know the team very well.
Soon Peter started attending games at the club in the summer months, and would often help out with scoring or umpiring at lower eleven games, as well as being a regular in the clubhouse. Later on he was a keen supporter of the 3rd and 4th XIs in games at Coopers, and would be seen helping with ground duties and chatting to those playing. He was made a Vice President of the club in 2014 and was an extremely popular member of the club and well known to many lower eleven opposition players.
Peter will be missed by his many friends at the club, and by his fellow supporters at Dagenham and Redbridge FC where he was a regular attendee. Everyone at the club would like to send their best wishes to his family at this difficult time.
