Angela Green and Vicky Waters named as winners of prestigious award

Saturday evening's Dinner and Dance saw Angela Green and Vicky Waters named as the 2022 winners of the Keith Martin Club Person of the Year award.

It was only back in February 2020 that girls and ladies cricket was relaunched at Upminster, and since then huge strides have been made.  A lot of this progress has been down to the tireless work of Angela and Vicky.

Our ladies side played in the National Cup in 2021 and caused a huge upset by beating Wanstead and Snaresbrook with Vicky as skipper, while this year saw both Angela and Vicky play a part as the ladies squad reached the Final of the Essex Softball Series at the County Ground.  Both ladies have also been influential in helping to make the women's edition of the Windmill Whack an ongoing success.

In girls cricket the number of young players now representing the club continues to grow.  Under Angela's guidance the U13 side won the County Cup competition in August while our U12s side claimed the Central Softball League title.  The team spirit now evident in this group is testimony to Angela's attitude and personality.

Our younger girls sides are continuing to make huge strides thanks to the coaching provided throughout the summer by Vicky. A number of girls from these sides have gone on to play representative girls cricket in recent seasons which demonstrates the quality of Vicky's work.

Everyone at the club is hugely grateful to Angela and Vicky for their efforts, alongside that of the rest of the coaching team and all of the managers and helpers involved with ladies and girls cricket.  Congratulations to both ladies on this thoroughly deserved accolade.

Other nominations for the 2022 award were Oliver Peck, Elaine Brown, Paul Middlemiss, Rob Mack and Kevin Roome.
