A long indoor season concluded last weekend, and it has been a successful six months for a number of Upminster's sides. With the Havering Indoor League not taking place this season all attention was focussed on the Central Indoor competitions which took place at Shenfield High and Campion Schools.
Leading the way were our U12 Ultras who secured the U12 Division One title with seven wins from seven games. Having won most of their first six games fairly comfortably it was left to the final game of the season to decide the destiny of the title as Upminster faced Harold Wood who had also won their first six games. A tight contest saw Upminster win by four wickets with just three balls to spare to secure top-spot.
The U12 Ultras also secured the runners-up spot in U13 Division One where they were pipped to the title by...............Upminster's U13 Ultras!! Having won the "Ultras Derby" between the two sides, the U13s knew they had all but secured the title before the last day of the season, but they finished things off in style as they beat Frenford by 43 runs.
It was a busy season for the U13 Ultras who also played in U15 Division Two where they finished in second place behind...............Upminster's U14 Ultras!! The U14s actually lost their last game of the season to Gidea Park and Romford but it was their only loss of the winter and the title had already been sewn up long before then.
Also claiming a runners-up spot were the U9 Ultras in U9 Division One. They lost just one game all season, to champions Brentwood who were worthy winners, while the U8 Ultras also played in the same division and came a respectable sixth. The U9 Ultras also competed in U10 Division Two where they ended in fifth position, while finishing in an excellent third place in that division were the U10 Ultimates who won four of their seven games including an excellent 24 run win over Billericay.
The U10 Ultras had a solid season in U10 Division One, finishing in fourth place, while they also played in U11 Division Two and claimed an excellent runners-up spot with five wins from eight games. In U11 Division One the U11 Ultras were a little unlucky to only finish fourth having one five out of seven games, while in U12 Division Two our U12 Underdogs did well to finish sixth and rounded off their season with a fine win over Ingatestone and Fryerning.
Our most senior side, the U15 Ultras had a tough season in U15 Division One but ended the campaign in fifth place, while in the youngest division, U9 Division Two our U9 Ultimates finished sixth and our U8 Ultimates ninth. Rounding things off were our U13 Ultimate who ended in third place in U13 Division Two.
Once again we had a number of our girls sides competing in the indoor leagues and they all enjoyed excellent seasons. Pride of place went to our U13 Uprising who having finished top of the U13s League progressed to Finals Day where they overcame Brentwood in the semi-final before narrowly missing out to Hutton in the Grand Final.
The U11 Uprising finished third in the U11 Girls Division before losing an excellent Finals Day semi-final with Hornchurch Athletic, while the U10s Uprising also had a good season in the U11 Girls Division, ending in fifth place. The U15 Uprising won three games out of seven and ended in a mid-table position in the U15 Girls Division.
It was also great that so many of our young boys and girls were able to represent Havering in the London Youth Games Indoor Cricket Competitions. Superbly managed and led by Rainham's Peter Reynolds and our very own Angela Green the three sides, recorded the best results in the Borough's history. The U13 Boys and U13 Girls both played superbly to claim third place finishes (out of all 32 London Boroughs) while the U15 Girls exceeded all expectations to beat all challengers and become London Youth Games CHAMPIONS!!
