JUNIOR COUNTY COMPS – 2025 DRAWS

Paul Middlemiss27 Feb - 09:37

Upminster sides find out opposition for 2025 summer comps

As the start of the summer season approaches, Essex Cricket in the Community have made the draws for the 2025 junior county competitions.

In the Kelly Castle Cup, the U11 Girls competition, there are three groups this season and Upminster have been placed in the Bodiam Group. They will face local derbies against Hornchurch and Hornchurch Athletic as well as three tough looking encounters with Wanstead & Snaresbrook, Woodford Wells and Aztecs.

Upminster are also in a challenging group for the Cordelia Griffith Cup, the U13 Girls competition, where they will be playing in the West Group. Upminster won this competition in 2022 and this time round they will face Bancroft Lions, Buckhurst Hill, Frenford, Redbridge, Wanstead & Snaresbrook and Woodford Wells.

The U15 Girls competition has been renamed as the Catherine Dalton Cup for this season, and there are two first round groups for 2025, with Upminster in the West Group. In that they will take on Bancroft Lions, Buckhurst Hill, Frenford, Hornchurch Athletic, Orsett & Thurrock, Wanstead & Snaresbrook and Woodford Wells.

Upminster have never reached the final of the Brian Taylor Trophy, the U12s county event, although they did reach the last eight in 2024 and the last four in 2023. This year Upminster will be in Group 4 for the first round of the competition where they will face Brentwood (11th May, away), Hutton (25th May, home), Orsett & Thurrock (1st June, away) and Bentley (8th June, home). The top two sides in each group will advance to the knockout stages of the competition.

This year’s U14 squad have a good record of reaching the later stages in a variety of competitions, and they will be hoping that continues in the Sir Alastair Cook Trophy. They have been drawn in Group 4 for the 2025 competition and will face familiar opponents Brentwood and Bentley, as well as three sides we play less often in the form of Chelmsford, Hadleigh & Thundersley and Rayleigh. Upminster reached the last eight of the event in 2024 before losing a thrilling game to Chingford.

It is 18 years since Upminster reached the final of the Matchplay, but they came close in 2024 as they made it all the way to the semi-finals. Upminster, who were also runners-up in 1996 and semi-finalists in 2019 will open their 2025 campaign at Bentley (22nd June) before entertaining Brentwood a week later. They then travel to Harold Wood (6th July) before completing the group stage with a home game against Rankins (20th July).

Our U19s will be hoping for a good season in the Ravi Bopara Trophy. They have been drawn in Group 3 and face four local derbies against Brentwood, Harold Wood, Hornchurch and Belhus.
