INTRODUCING OUR 2026 CAPTAINS

Paul Middlemiss1 Dec 2025 - 10:40

Aaron Beard to captain 1st XI in 2026

The 167th AGM of Upminster Cricket Club took place on Sunday and captains for next summer were elected.

Looking to lead the 1st XI back to the Premier Division will be Aaron Beard. Aaron took on the role midway through the 2025 season and the all-rounder will now continue as skipper in 2026. Aaron will be supported by Max Carter-Miller who takes on the role of Vice Captain. Opening bowler Carter-Miller is Upminster through and through having come through the club’s junior programme and will provide great support to Beard.

Zoe Quested will continue as Women’s 1st XI captain for Division 1 games in the Essex Women’s Premier League with Dani Cox in charge for matches in the The 100 competition.

The 2nd XI will continue to be led by Ollie Peck. The club Chair and former 1st XI skipper will be in his third season as 2s skipper in 2026 and will be hoping for a more positive season than 2025 when the team only survived the drop on the final day of the season. Stepping up to be Vice Captain will be Mit Shah. Mit enjoyed a breakthrough season for the 2s in 2025, and he ended the year as top scorer for the side with nearly 400 league runs.

It will also be a third successive year in charge in 2026 for Angela Green, as she continues as Women’s 2nd XI skipper. After promotion in 2024 the 2nd XI consolidated in Division 2 in 2025 and will be looking to push on again in 2026. Assisting Angela will be her new Vice Captain, Georgia Hayes. Georgia has a wealth of cricketing experience behind her, and she will be a huge help to Angela and the rest of the side.

There is no change for the 3rd XI who will continue to be led by Dan Simpson with Steve Limn carrying on as Vice Captain. The pair have been in charge for many years and ensured the 3rd XI have continued to challenge at the top end of the Premier Division table. The 3rd XI ended 2025 in third position but will be looking to go even better next summer and reclaim the title they last won in 2023.

Matt Ingleson will continue as 4th XI captain for a second season. The 4th XI were relegated at the end of the 2025 season so Ingleson will be looking to lead his side back to Division 1 at the first time of asking. Supporting Ingleson once again will be Matt Mccarthy who continues in his role as Vice Captain.

There is a change to the 5th XI captaincy after many seasons, with Adam Overton taking over from Aalok Latey. Overton has a huge amount of experience in the Essex League after many seasons with South Woodford and Upminster, and he will be looking to push his side further up the table after a fourth place finish last season. Stewart Hammond will continue in his role as Vice Captain.

There is a change to the 6th XI captaincy with Craig Grote moving into the role as he moves up from skippering the 7th XI. And there is also a change to the 7th XI skipper with veteran Don Triggs taking over and bringing with him many years of experience at Upminster and Hainault & Clayhall, while Chris Brabin will support Don as Vice Captain.

After a successful return to the Sunday League in 2025 there is a change of Sunday League XI captain for 2026 as Ollie Burley takes over. Burley was a regular in last year’s side who crowned the season with a win in the T20 Cup in September, and he will be assisted by Callum Berry who will be Vice Captain.

The Women’s Softball side enjoyed a brilliant 2025 reaching Finals Day in both the Ballerz Blast and Essex Softball Series, and their leadership team will remain the same with Jami Armes continuing as captain and Toni Woodgate in the role of Vice Captain.

It was also a successful season in 2025 for the U19s who reached Finals Day of the Ravi Bopara Trophy for the first time in the competition’s history. They will be looking to match or better than achievement in 2026 under the leadership of new skipper Gus Philpot who enjoyed a brilliant first season at the club in 2025.
