We may still only be in January but a number of our junior sides, and our women's side, have already played their first games of cricket for 2026.
The women's side started the year with a narrow loss to Wanstead and Snaresbrook in their top of the table clash in the Chelmsford Indoor League two weeks ago. Wanstead's four run win means they are now favourties for the title, but if Upminster can win their final game against Benfleet on Valentines Day then Wanstead will need to win both of their remaining games to take the title.
Our U15 Ultras have not yet restarted their Central U15 Division One campaign since the Christmas break, and they will be looking to keep up their 100% record when they take on Harold Wood on Sunday 8th February. The U14 Ultras began the new year in style as they claimed a 102 run win over Gidea Park & Romford but they fell to a four wicket loss against Galleywood later on the same afternoon to remain in mid-table in Central U14 Division One. The U14 Ultimate restarted their indoor season last Sunday and what a return to action it was as their four man side picked up a brilliant 10 run win over Writtle in Central U15 Division Two with Elliott Russell making a remarkable 93 not out.
As always, the U13 Ultras have been busy, and they have played two games so far in 2026. In Central U13 Division One they kept up their 100% record with a 60 run derby success over Harold Wood while in the Central U13 Cup they produced an excellent performance to beat Billericay by 120 runs. The team are in action this weekend against Springfield in Central U13 Division One while they are also competing in Central Division One at U14 and U15 age groups, and they will be back in action in these competitions in February and March. Meanwhile the U13 Ultimate will take on South Woodham & Burnham in Central U13 Division Two on 7th February.
In Central U12 Division One our U12 Ultras claimed a January win over Harold Wood (by 52 runs) while in Central U11 Division One our U11 Ultras started the year with a narrow two wicket win over Hornchurch Athletic to remain top of the table. The U11 Ultras are also taking part in Central U12 Division Two and they will take on Broomfield in that competition this Sunday. The U11 Ultras also helped out the U12 squad last week for their Central U12 Cup game against Shenfield, and Upminster came away with a four wicket win. The U11 Ultimate are still looking for their first win of the season, but they did put up an excellent fight against Brentwood two weeks ago before losing by four wickets.
The U10 Ultras fell to a defeat against Hornchurch Athletic in Central U10 Division One in their first game of 2026, but they do remain in title contention, while the squad are also going well in Central U11 Division Two despite falling to a thrilling two run loss against Billericay two weeks ago. The U10 Ultimate have yet to play in 2026 but they will be looking to pick up their first win of the season in Central U10 Division Two when they take on Hutton in late February.
Also hoping to gain their first win of the season in February will be the U9 Ultras who have not yet played in Central U9 Division One in 2026, while the U9 Ultimate completed the league section of their season with a loss to Shenfield last weekend in Central U9 Division Two. The U8 Ultras also finished their league programme last weekend when they lost out by just five runs against Ingatestone & Fryerning in what was a brilliant game.
The U15 Girls have already played three games this year. They started a busy January by beating Hornchurch Athletic in Central Girls U15 Division One before losing out against Billericay a week later. They then played in one of the games of the season last Sunday as Imogen Croker kept her nerve as Upminster beat Hutton by one wicket. The U13 Girls started 2026 with a win over Brentwood in Central Girls U13 Division One, and although they had no opposition for their league game two weeks later they weren't put off as the entire squad got together to play an intra-club game instead!! Our U11 Girls remain in contention for the Central Girls U11 Division One crown despite an early January loss to Harold Wood, and they face a local derby with Hornchurch next weekend.
There is still much for all of our sides to play for in the remainder of the indoor season with league games continuing, cup matches on the horizon and play-offs and finals days to conclude the season in late March.
