Hunters suffer last ball defeat to Willingale Tandoori Boys outplayed by attacking Galleywood

Richard Horswill and Dave Mundell guide Willingale to a last ball victory over the Upminster Hunters

The Hunters won the toss and chose to bat and got off to a quick start as Ison and Pickering found the walls regularly. Ison soon retired just after the 3rd over but Willingale then turned the screw. Debutant Gus Siggins sadly fell for 0, falling victim to a ragging turner from Hamilton (1/17). Terry Wyatt and Louis Pickering struggled in the middle overs as the accurate Willingale bowlers restricted the batsman. Eventually, around the 9th over, both batsman got going and hit a couple maximums each to reach the retirement figure.

A quick and impressive 26* from Ellis Pickering in the final 3 overs elevated the Hunters up-to a par score of 118/1.

Only Louis Pickering was able to stem the early free flowing scoring of the Willingale batsman as the rest of the Hunters bowlers struggled for a consistent line and length. Pickering bowled a perfect Yorker to bowl opening batsman Green, which resulted in Horswill joining Mundell at the crease. The two batsman expertly manoeuvred the ball around the sports hall, constantly frustrating the Hunter bowlers. Both batsman soon retired as Willingale were well ahead of the rate. A late flutter of wickets meant Hunters had a chance, Ison taking a very smart caught and bowled off the roof and some quick hands from wicket-keeper Terry Wyatt gave 2019 bowler of the year Mark D’Cruz a wicket. The two retiring batsman returned to the crease and very casually saw Willingale home.

Galleywood openers smash them to victory

A performance to forget for the Tandoori Boys in the opening Division A game, with a horror show of a fielding display. In the first 6 overs, they dropped half a dozen catches which proved to be hugely costly as Galleywood racked up 155. Alan Ison and Billy Wright both returned very respectable figures but were unable to remove Adams (63*) and Murray (48)

In reply, Upminster Tandoori Boys scored 36 off the first over thanks to numerous wides/no balls and some big hitting from Alan Ison. Off-spinner Duncan Walton came into the attack and ended all hopes of a Tandoori Boys victory. First of all, yorking Alan Ison for 23 and then removing Frost and Connor. Billy Wright batted superbly for his 30* but was left stranded when he eventually ran out of partners as they were bowled out for 90
