Weekend Review Apr 30th- May 2nd

Upminster 1st XI were in double cup action this past weekend. They took on Ilford on Saturday over Valentines Park in the 2nd round of the Dukes League Cup. Alan Ison won the toss and elected to bat first on a tricky looking wicket. Shafiq Rahman and Shahbaz Butt got the innings off to a solid start, putting on 48 for the first wicket. Shafiq and Frankie Hazel fell in quick succession which brought Alan Ison to join Shahbaz. The two batsman put on a match winning 149 run partnership with Shahbaz eventually retiring hurt for another brilliant 101* repeating his century from last week. Captain Alan Ison continued his fine start to the season with a scintillating 87 off 72 balls. Upminster finished the innings on a very command-able 279/6. John Curtis struck with his 2nd ball, making the talented Saf Imtiaz produce a leading edge. Wickets continuted to fall at regular intervals as Ilford never looked like getting close to chasing the score down. Matthew Tigg finished the pick of the bowlers taking 3-30. Upminster have been rewarded with a trip to Chelmer Park in the next round.

Monday May 2nd

Upminster v Cockfosters in the ECB National Club Championship Round One.

Upminster CC - 1st XI - Won by 42 runs

Upminster- 208-7 in 30 overs. (T.Wyatt 86, F.Hazle 71)
Cockfosters- 166ao. (J.Whetstone 4-21, A.Ison (3-38 hat-tick)

In a reduced 30 overs game, Upminster defeated Cockfosters on Bank Holiday Monday thanks to some serious hitting from Terry Wyatt. Terry smashed 86 off 55 balls including 5 sixes and he was well supported by Frankie Hazle who also hit 4 sixes in his 71. Julian Whetstone was the star with the ball picking up 4 wickets in his debut for the club and to finish off the game Alan Ison took a yorker-fueled hat-trick to finish off Cockfosters. Upminster will take on Hornchurch next Sunday in Round Two at home.
