Race for Finals Day places hots up in men’s and women’s competitions

After earlier rounds of the competition had been severely disrupted due to the wet weather, it was great to see two games in each of the men’s and women’s Windmill Whack competitions played on Sunday in bright sunshine at Upminster Park and Coopers School.

The Hunter Hurricanes were in action twice at HQ and picked up one win and one loss to just about stay in contention for a place at Finals Day. In the early match the Canes were undone by a Mack inspired Kushoom Tigers, where half centuries for brothers Steve and Rob saw the Tigers themselves keep alive their own title dreams. The Canes bounced back though in the later game where Billy Wright making a rare half century to set up a win over 2020 champions the Govani Maestros who are now all but out of the competition having completed all four of their group games.

With three group games still to play the table looks like this:

Chairman’s Choice P3 Pts 6

Apple Financial Firebirds P2 Pts 3
Hunter Hurricanes P3 Pts 3

At Coopers the Tolan T-Birds were also involved in two game in the women’s event, and they to won one and lost one of those contests. In their game against the Apple Financial Phoenix the T-Birds missed out as the Phoenix made it three wins from three to secure a top two spot, but the T-Birds then recovered to beat the Ace Avengers later in the day, a result which means the Avengers can no longer make the Final.
