WEEKEND REVIEW - JUNE 26th/27th PDF Print E-mail
Written by ucc2

It was a wet weekend for many of Upminster's sides, as most of Saturday's games were washed out before completion.

The exception to this was the 1st XI, who beat local rivals Gidea Park and Romford by 8 wickets at Upminster Park.  Despite a good start
Gidea struggled against the spin of Naeem Iqbal and Oliver Peck.  Iqbal picked up 4-42 and Peck 3-22 as Gidea slumped from 57-0 to
130 AO shortly after lunch.

In reply Upminster lost Mike Rath early on, but Mark Squibb (32), Alan Ison (57*) and Harry Jenkins (27*) saw the home side to a comfortable
win.

The 2nd XI made 233-9 from their 52 overs at Valentines Park, thanks to runs from Steve Mack, Andrew D'Cruz and Rob Waghorn.  In reply
Ilford were 80-0 when rain brought a halt to proceedings.

Rob Mack's 3rd XI posted a total of 212 AO in their clash with Gidea Park at Gallows Corner.  Will Murphy and Rashid Rahmen were the main
scorers in their total, while occasional bowler James Patient took 5 wickets for Park.  In reply, Park reached 33-1 before the rains came.

The 4th XI clash with Gidea Park was also abandoned because of the weather, while the 5th XI were denied a close finish with the rain.  Fives and
Heronians 4th XI were dismissed for 148 and Upminster were 4-1 in reply before play was halted.

The 6th XI clash with West Essex was also a victim of the weather, while the 7th XI were stopped in their tracks against Billericay 6th XI.  Upminster
were 20-3 chasing 150 to win when the weather intervened.

There was better news on Sunday, with the 2nd XI easily winning their Sunday League game with Aztecs.  Upminster piled up 292-6 from their 40
overs, with Alan Ison making 61 and Scott Hammond smashing 81 not out!!  In reply Aztecs were never in it, and Rob White and Ollie Peck were in
the wickets as Upminster eased to a comfortable win.

The Sunday 3rd XI fell to defeat at Chigwell.  Upminster were dismissed for just 83, before Chigwell cruised to victory.
