Sunday 8th May Review

A magnificent century from Julian Whetstone (106) wasn't enough for Upminster as they fell to a 81 run defeat in the ECB National Club Championship 2nd Round match against Hornchurch. Hornchurch batted first on a blistering hot day over Upminster Park and scored freely on a flat pitch. The Kalijeera Kings new star player Billy Gordon scored 81 as Hornchurch racked up 272 in 45 overs. Julian also starred with the ball picking up two wickets along with captain Alan Ison.

Julian and Harry Jenkins (28) put on 113 for the second wicket with Julian showing off with some gorgeous drives and expertly sweeping the spinners. Sadly no-one else could get started on a pitch that was now assisting the spinners greatly. Billy Wright was the last man to fall as Upminster were bowled out for 191. (Scorecard)
