1s knocked out of league cup, Sunday 2s win thriller

Upminster were knocked out of the league cup by Harold Wood on Saturday. Full report - Romford Recorder Scorecard

The 2nd XI faced Harold Wood 2s in a friendly and were struggling at 22/5, contributions from Max Gordon (22) and Nathan Bright (22) helped to post a total of 125/6. In reply Wood started well reaching 70/0 off 14 overs. 2 quick wickets for Scott Fisher and Gordon slowed progress but despite a wicket for Bright Wood reached their target in 29 Overs.

Upminster progressed to Round 2 of the Royal London National Club Championship after The Roebucks conceded Sunday’s first round tie and will now face Hornchurch who defeat Dartford.

Dave Browns Sunday 2s were involved in the match of the weekend against Holtwhites CC in a 40 over encounter. On a lively wicket Upminster were indebted to Paul Middlemiss who batted the majority of the innings for a excellent 66. Gareth Garnsworthy claimed 3/14 before a last wicket partnership helped the 2s reach 191 from their 50 overs.
Holtwhites lost 2 early wickets to opening bowlers Karim Govani and Will Bottoms and when Billy Wright took the third there were hopes of a comfortable victory. Garnsworthy and Kevin Tew rebuilt the innings and going to the final 10 overs were favourites for victory. Skipper Brown bought himself and fellow specialist death bowler Mark Schofield on in a effort to slow the run rate. Brown dismissed Tew for 54 whilst Schofield dismissed Garnsworthy for a excellent 79 thanks to a great catch in the deep by Will Frost. Holtwhites required 2 runs from the final ball but were unable to pierce the infield and a run out gave Upminster victory by just 1 run
