Tandoori Boys slip to narrow loss in thrilling game

The Upminster Hunter's kept up their 100% start to the indoor season with a comfortable win over Great Totham on Sunday. In their first fixture at Shenfield High School, Upminster won the toss and elected to bat first, and they saw Adam Quested and Ellis Pickering make a brilliant start as both players scored at a good rate and reached the retirement mark. Scott Fisher kept the scoreboard moving with 14 and then Nicky Ison and John Curtis added some late impetus. Curtis made a typically brutal 23 and Ison reached the retirement mark as Upminster closed on 131-3 from their 12 overs.

Totham made a good start to their reply and although Curtis bowled tightly some wayward bowling at the "other end" kept the chase interesting. The first three Totham batsmen all reached the retirement mark but a tight spell from captain Ison turned the game back in Upminster's favour, and although Totham kept fighting to the end it was not enough as they finished on 116-1, the wicket going to Ellis Pickering.

Later in the evening the Tandoori Boys played their first game at Ingatestone, as they faced Ingatestone and Fryerning in what turned out to be a thrilling contest. Upminster lost an early wicket and then saw captain Billy Wright and Ian Munn both bat superbly as they built a good platform and both reached the retirement mark. Nathan Brown batted well in the middle order and Wright and Munn both returned to the crease, with Wright ending up on a brilliant 37 not out as Upminster finished on 97-5 from their 12 overs.

Ingatestone started well in reply with Adam Smith and particularly Chris Westwood looking in excellent form. However, when they both retired the Upminster bowlers put the squeeze on and pegged back their opponents. Will Frost and Ryan Brown bowled excellent spells and captain Billy Wright picked up a wicket as Upminster fought back. 14 were needed from the last over with Westwood and Smith back at the crease. Westwood found the back wall before being trapped in front by Wright and Smith needed to find two from the last ball to secure the win. Smith got enough on the ball for him and Westwood (acting as runner) to be able to scramble home and secure his side a one wicket win.
