Defeats for T20 and Sunday 1s

After an unbeaten Saturday hopes were high on Sunday.

The T20 side played their 2nd group game against Shenfield hoping to pick up a 2nd victory. Having won the toss and batted Julian Whetstone (67) and Louis Pickering (32) got off to a solid start against disciplined Shenfield bowling. The middle order made useful contributions to a total of 155/6. Matt Salisbury with 2/14 the pick of the Shenfield bowling.

In reply Potticary came out blazing in looking to chase the total down. Spinners Peck and Connor Whetstone took wickets but Shenfield raced to the target in 16.3 overs for the loss of 2 wickets

A youthful side filled in for the first Sunday League game of the season against Goresbrook. Tom Daniels and Ollie White bowled accurate spells to keep Goresbrook to just 70 runs off the first 20 overs. Calverly then came in and upped the run rate scoring 78 off just 64 balls to help Goresbrook to 210/5.

The experience of Barwick and Gaymer showed in tying the Upminster batsman down in reply and at 45/6 a heavy defeat was on the cards. Arun Kullar (52) and White helped to push the total to 139.

The Sunday 2s welcomed The Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim Cricket team JG Lions who will be representing Team UK at the upcoming Jubilee Games in Dubai.

There were two games, a 20 over match and a 15 over match. Both matches won convincingly by Team UK.

Some highlights for Upminster was the batting of youngster Jake Giddins who top scored in both games with scores of 26 and 38. Ian twine showed the bowlers how to do it in the second game with a spell of 3 overs 2/19.
