Twos win again and threes pick up much needed victory

It was a familiar story for the 1st XI as they fell to a defeat in their basement battle with Colchester at Upminster Park. Shahbaz made 68 and several other batsmen made starts once again, but the home side were bowled out for 163.

Spinners Conor Whetstone and Matt Tigg struck in the visitors reply, but Julian Russell made an unbeaten 93 to help his side to a convincing seven wicket win. (Scorecard)

It was a different story at Castle Park as Upminster won the reverse fixture in fine style. Captain Ollie Peck led the way once again, claiming remarkable figures of 4-8, and with Will Chuter and Billy Wright picking up two apiece the home side were dismissed for 110. James Evans (31), Frankie Hazle (41) and Harry Jenkins (23*) then ensured there were no hiccups as Upminster won by six wickets to maintain their grip on their place. (Scorecard)

The 3rd XI picked up their first win for six weeks with success over Buckhurst Hill at Coopers School. Arun Kullar picked up 5-33 and captain Rob White claimed 3-32 as Upminter, who put in an excellent fielding display, rolled out Hill for just 96. The reply wasn't plain sailing, but 24 from Paul Middlemiss and an unbeaten 18 from the skipper saw the home side to a four wicket win. (Scorecard)

The 4th XI held on for what could be an important draw as they faced Wanstead 5s. Jonathan Mudhoo and Balraj Ryatt were in the runs for Wanstead as they piled up 212-9. Karim Govani, 2-36, was the pick of the Upminster attack. Ant Limn and Alfie James made starts with the bat, but it was left to Ellis Pickering and Nathan Bright to take Upminster to the draw at 160-7. (Scorecard)

There was also a draw for the 5th XI as their promotion hopes were all but ended against Buckhurst Hill. Hill made 190 mainly thanks to 85 from Ali Azad whilst Bryan Martin restricted the scoring with 5/30, before Upminster held on at 153-8. (Scorecard)

The 6th XI were defeated by high flying Loughton 5s on the second pitch at Coopers School. Alex Ward made 36 and Darren Sadek made 19 as the home side battled their way to 113. Muhammad Dilawar then made a quickfire 63 for Loughton and despite two wickets from Munahid Faheem Loughton cruised to a seven wicket win. (Scorecard)
