Finally the competitive action gets underway, with six sides in action on Saturday

The SNEL season begins this Saturday and Upminster's sides will all be looking to get off to a positive start.

At Upminster Park, Nicky Ison's men welcome Harold Wood for a first day local derby. Upminster were relegated from the Premier Division last season, while Wood eventually finished third in Division One and will provide stern opposition. Ison's men fell to defeat in the League Cup at Chingford last week, despite a good performance, and with Alan Ison back in the side they will be looking to start the campaign with a victory.

Ollie Peck and the 2nd XI will make the opposite journey down Hall Lane to face Wood at Harold Wood Park in a Premier Division clash. Peck's side finished an excellent third last season in a tough division, but suffered a friendly defeat last week against Chingford. Wood were promoted from Division One, along with local rivals Hornchurch, at the end of last season, and will be looking to make a positive impression in the top flight.

The 3rd XI, under the leadership of new skipper Josh Lamont, will host Harlow at Coopers School in a top flight contest. Both sides finished in mid-table last season, although Upminster came out on top in the two meetings between the clubs. Lamont's side warmed up for the league programme with a low scoring victory against Wanstead last Saturday.

The 4th XI also have a new captain, Paul Middlemiss, and they make their longest journey of the season to face Old Southendians 3rd XI. Both sides were promoted together last season so a tight contest will surely be in store.

A familiar face will take charge of the 5th XI for the 2018 season, as Karim Govani returns to the role he performed with such distinction for many seasons. They face a tricky encounter first up as they go to Buckhurst Hill 4s who had an excellent second half of the season in 2017.

At Campion the 6th XI host Chingford 4th XI. Joint captain Paul Scott misses the fixture with a broken toe, so 2017 skipper Ray Calder takes the reins. Calder's men had an up and down year last term and will be looking for some consistency in 2018.

All SNEL games involving the Club will begin at 12.30pm throughout the season.

On Sunday the League XI will be looking to build on their victory at Rainham two weeks ago, whole the Friendly XI will visit old friends Woodford Green.
