Roots and Firebirds on wrong end of results in games 3 and 4

Games 3 and 4 of the Windmill Whack resulted in victories for the Hunter Hurricanes and Govani Maestros on a blustery afternoon at Upminster Park. A big crowd was in attendance for both games and they were treated to two entertaining contests. (Photos)

The first game of the afternoon saw the Root 66ers, missing several big name players, make 128-3 from their 20 overs. Skipper Harry Jenkins led the way with 50 and he received good support from Janhoi Bean Wilson who made 36. Sam Twine picked up two victims as the Hurricanes chased down their target, but an unbeaten 43 from Matt Tigg saw the newly formed franchise to a five wicket win with nine balls to spare. Game 4 saw the Firebirds steadily build a challenging total thanks to new skipper James Evans (45), and his equally tall partner, Louis Pickering (50). Nicky Ison then survived a scare to make a quickfire 44 from 27 deliveries as last season's wooden spoonists made 158-3. The Maestros top loaded their batting order in reply and saw Alan Ison and James Redwood pepper the boundaries as they went about their task with gusto. Both made 50, but when they retired the Firebirds hit back with a string of quick wickets. However Maestros skipper Connor Whetstone remained calm and his 16 not out piloted his side to victory.
