Hurricanes looking to take another step closer to Finals Day with second win

The Apple Finance Firebirds will be looking to bounce back from their opening day thrashing at the hands of the Kushoom Bugh Tigers when they face the Hunter Hurricanes on Wednesday evening (6.00pm).

The Firebirds came into the season with high hopes after strengthening their squad at the draft night, but Ant Limn's side proved way to strong on Matchday 1. It was a familiar story for the Birds, with Louis Pickering and James Evans making good starts before falling, and the rest of the side finding it difficult to keep the scoreboard moving. Owner Kev Heazle is expected to be in attendance for this contest and will be expecting to see an improved display, although his side won't be helped by the absence of son and star player Ollie.

The Hunter Hurricanes appear to go from strength to strength and look to be taking over from the Chairman's Choice as the Blue Ribbon franchise of the competition. Last year's winners may have lost Matt Tigg to the Tigers, but they were way to strong for the Choice on Matchday 1 and will expect to pick up another win in this one. Skipper Mike Larke is keeping his side close to his chest for now, but whatever side he names, the Canes will be favourites to take another step towards a third consecutive Finals Day.

The action gets underway at 6pm and the bar will be open throughout the contest.
