6 out of 7 away wins as disappointment for 1st XI but 3rd XI maintain 100% record

The batting again hindered the 1st XI on Saturday as they fell to defeat against Hainault & Clayhall. Batting first there were only two double figure scores, 1 of those from Kiran Kullar who held the Hainault attack at bay until he was the final wicket having scored 43 out of 89. Zoheb Sharif (4/23) and Ryan Hurst (3/35) causing the damage

In contrast the 2nd XI smashed hit 312/3 in their game against Ilford with Alan Ison (102), Harry Jenkins (93) and James Evans (74) allowing for an early declaration after 47 overs. Ilford lost wickets steadily and were 9 down trying to bat out for the draw before the final wicket was taken with just 6 balls to go. 3 Wickets apiece for Will Chuter, Ollie Peck & Dan Tyler. The 3rd XI kept their 100% record going with victory at Harold Wood. Contributions from all the top order helped the 3s post 213/9. Wood struggled in reply to the seam of Mark D'Cruz and Ollie White, Brad Ayling hit 43 batting at 10 before D'Cruz returned to bowl him to earn figures of 5/47 and a 85 run victory. (Scorecard)

It was frustration against for the 4th XI against Wickford at Coopers. Batting first Jake Eade (37) and Sam Twine (29) helped the 4s to 75/1 before a batting collapse meant that Will Frosts 23 not out allowed the total to reach 132 all out. In reply Michael Jones and Rob Bannister took early wickets but again the 4s were unable to take advantage and were defeated by 3 wickets. (Scorecard)

The only draw of the day was the fifth XI against West Essex 3s. Michael Larkes patient 52 not out setup a 1st innnings total of 182/8. In reply West Essex were in trouble thanks to the bowling of skipper Karim Govani and Joe Simpson, 65 from Sadiq kept West in the hunt and off the final ball 6 runs or 1 wicket were required. Govani bowled a dot ball for the draw. (Scorecard)

On Sunday the 1st XI hosted Benfleet in the Sunday league and were defeated by 45 runs. Benfleet made 150/5 limited by Peck (2/18) and Billy Wright (2/30), a spell of 4-1-3-4 by Blowes took Benfleet to victory despite 43 from Nathan Woods. (Scorecard)

The Sunday 2s friendly at Orsett and Thurrock ended in victory for Upminster thanks to 50 from Ryan Brown and 4 more wickets for Govani. (Scorecard)
