2nd and 3rd XI continue title pushes while 4s battle for survival

After their excellent win over high-flying Colchester last week, the 1st XI go in search of another scalp when they entertain Hutton at Upminster Park. Hutton are clear at the top of the Division One table but have stumbled in recent weeks with star man Vivian Paver getting little support from the rest of the side. Paver has been in sparkling form for most of the campaign, making a remarkable six centuries and picking up some crucial wickets along the way. Hutton are also likely to include two former Upminster players in their ranks with Conor and Julian Whetstone set to line up for the table-toppers. Shahbaz Butt will be looking to follow on from his wonderful century last weekend at Castle Park and Alan Ison returns to the side as Ollie Peck’s men look to continue their winning run.

The game at Upminster Park begins at 12.30, and will be a timed format game, as all SNEL action reverts to this format for the last four Weeks of the season.

Billy Wright’s 2nd XI suffered a blow to their title chances last week, losing heavily to Chelmsford, but they will look to bounce back as they make the long trip up the A12 to face Colchester. Upminster beat the North Essex side earlier in the season but Colchester need the points in their fight against relegation. James Evans returns to the side to bolster the batting and he will be looking to recapture his early season form for the side.

The 3rd XI will face a tough afternoon as they travel to Brentwood looking to keep their title push on track. Upminster beat Brentwood in a closely fought game earlier in the season, but Brentwood have been in excellent form in recent weeks and were 2017 Champions, winning every game in a remarkable campaign. Captain Josh Lamont returns after holiday and his all round skills will boost the side while Steve Limn will be hoping to continue his excellent season with the bat.

It was another missed opportunity for the 4th XI last week as they twice got into good positions at Loughton before falling to defeat. With four games left they must find winning form soon to avoid the drop, but it won’t be an easy afternoon tomorrow with high-flying Billericay coming to Coopers. Ricay are pushing hard for promotion, but only squeezed past Upminster by two wickets in their contest in June so Stewart Hammond’s side will be hopeful of causing a surprise.

The 5th XI were awarded their game last week after Shenfield could not raise a side, and that put to bed any lingering relegation worries for Karim Govani and his men. They will be looking to finish the season strongly though, and welcome promotion chasing South Woodford to Campion. South are in pursuit of Brentwood at the top of the table, and with only one team promoted they know they have to win to keep their title chances alive.

Ray Calder will have some old faces at his disposal as his 6th XI take on Walthamstow at the Peter May Centre. Lloyd Sutton has been in good form in recent weeks since returning to the side, and all rounder David Staples will join him this week as Calder’s men look to pick up their second win of the campaign.

On Sunday, the Sunday League side travel to Goresbrook as they jostle for a play off position, while the Sunday 2s will travel to Epping for a friendly.
