Saturday 7th May Review

Upminster collected 5 wins out of 6 this Saturday as the 1st XI fell 11 runs short to deny a perfect day. The 1st XI won the toss and elected to field over Orsett. They reduced the opposition to 206/9 off their 50 overs with Whetstone, Tigg and Rahman all picking up a brace. In reply, Shahbaz Butt lost his wicket first ball and his opening partner Rahman soon after to leave Upminster in strife. Frankie Hazle (32) and Alan Ison (26) made starts but didn’t go on. Terry Wyatt (50) and Connor Whetstone (56) put on the big partnership to get Upminster close but they kept losing wickets and finished 11 runs short. (Scorecard)

The 2nd XI defeated Wanstead by 5 wickets in a fantastic performance against the 2015 champions. Chris Ryan and Max Carter-Miller both bowled with great control at the start to limit the Wanstead scoring. James Aggio-Brewe also bowled a very tight 11 over spell as he bowled in partnership with Nicky Ison. With the help of Aggio-Brewe and some good fielding, Ison managed to collect figures of 8-37 to bowl out Wanstead for 135. A 74 run partnership between Aggio-Brewe (39*) and Sarwar (33) was the backbone of Upminster’s reply as they successfully chased down the score in 38 overs. (Scorecard)

Upminster 3rd XI collected their first win of the season at the newly revamped Coopers Coborn and Company School. Oliver Peck was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-34 in 13 overs. He was well supported by Andrew Berry (3-34) and Antonio Darrell (2-41). Tom Billinghurst got the reply off to a racing start, smashing 9 boundaries in his quick-fire 58. James, Thompson and Arun Kullar all made twenties but it was down to Elliot Bussey with an assured 37* after a late collapse to see the 3rd XI home, 9 down. (Scorecard)

Upminster 4th XI made very easy work of a depleted Hornchurch 3rd XI. Karim Govani returned to last season’s form straight away and picked up 4 wickets as Hornchurch were bowled out for 89. The experience of Stuart Hammond (35) mixed with the youth and skill of Kiran Kullar (37*) made light-work of the chase for an easy win. (Scorecard)

Colts impress as 5th XI record impressive win. Nathan Bright was the star of the show for the 5th XI taking his maiden adult 5-wicket haul. Jamie Squance also impressed with the ball (2-19) and was well backed up by Daniels, Larke and Macdonald. Earlier in the match Joe Wyatt hit his 3rd successive league ton in Upminster’s mammoth total of 265. Paul Middlemiss also continued his good early season form making 43 with Tom Daniels contributing 38. (Scorecard)

To finish off a great Saturday, the 6th XI beat Harlow Town by 59 runs. Ian Twine top scored with 59 and was well supported by Ryan Brown who made an impressive 34. New recruit Ansar Khan did the damage with the ball taking 6-38 in a match winning 14 over spell. A fantastic result for Paul Scott and his team. (Scorecard)
