Season starts in dramatic fashion

The Hunters won the toss and chose to bat and got off to a quick start as Ison and Pickering found the walls regularly. Ison soon retired just after the 3rd over but Willingale then turned the screw. Debutant Gus Siggins sadly fell for 0, falling victim to a ragging turner from Hamilton (1/17). Terry Wyatt and Louis Pickering struggled in the middle overs as the accurate Willingale bowlers restricted the batsman. Eventually, around the 9th over, both batsman got going and hit a couple maximums each to reach the retirement figure.

A quick and impressive 26* from Ellis Pickering in the final 3 overs elevated the Hunters up-to a par score of 118/1.

Only Louis Pickering was able to stem the early free flowing scoring of the Willingale batsman as the rest of the Hunters bowlers struggled for a consistent line and length. Pickering bowled a perfect Yorker to bowl opening batsman Green, which resulted in Horswill joining Mundell at the crease. The two batsman expertly manoeuvred the ball around the sports hall, constantly frustrating the Hunter bowlers. Both batsman soon retired as Willingale were well ahead of the rate. A late flutter of wickets meant Hunters had a chance, Ison taking a very smart caught and bowled off the roof and some quick hands from wicket-keeper Terry Wyatt gave 2019 bowler of the year Mark D’Cruz a wicket. The two retiring batsman returned to the crease and very casually saw Willingale home.
