1s, 2s & 3s all claim crucial victories

After last week's washout the senior sides were all back in action. The 1st XI faced Southend who were just one spot below Upminster in the league table. Having won the toss the Upminster innings got off to a poor start with Freddie Butt out to the fifth ball of the match to Joe Robbins. James Evans and Tom Daniels put on 75 for the 2nd wicket before Evans fell for 32. This brought Shabhaz Butt to the crease and he led the innings expertly despite wickets falling around him, to score 149 not out off 126 balls and take the Upminster total to 318/8. For Southend, Robbins led the way with 3/47 off his 10 overs. Southend's reply started well reaching 44/0 before John Curtis and Ollie Peck reduced Southend to 55/3. Joe Robbins & Joe Sibbons steadied the ship but as the run rate required increased wickets fell and Louis Pickering took two wickets including Robbins for 112. The southend innings fell away and they ended up with 257/9 giving the 1s a 61 run victory (Scorecard)

At Valentines park the 2nd XI faced Ilford. Having won the toss and despite some starts the innings was progressing poorly until Stu Connor and Ellis Pickering helped lift the score both hitting 48 to help post 215/8. In reply Ilford's reply fell away to a disciplined bowling attack. Shaffiq Rahman led the way with 3/26 whilst Pickering, Billy Wright (#400club) and Sam Twine all took 2 wickets (Scorecard)

The 3rd XI won their derby match at Hornchurch. In a low scoring encounter Bobby Mack hit 48 in a total of 172 all out. In reply Hornchurch had no reply to the bowling of Mark D'Cruz who claimed 6/23 off his 9 overs while Mack contributed with 3/22 as Hornchurch were bowled out for 137. (Scorecard)

The 4th XI fell to defeat at Coopers against Billericay 3s. Rafe Smallman (52) and Ian Munn (37) took the total to 104/0 before a disastrous collapse against the bowling of Paul Brown (4/14) reduced the side to 114/7. Late order contributions from Will Bottoms and Ryan Brown took the final total to 174 all out. Luke Williams claimed 2/26 in the Billericay reply but 53 from Steve Laen-Gay helped Billericay to a 4 wicket win. (Scorecard)

In a high scoring encounter at Great and Little Warley the 5th XI failed to chase Brentwood's total by a small margin. Brentwood through Mahadeo and Bainbridge scored 209 all out. Dave Cowley shone with the ball taking 4/26. In reply a number of Upminster batsmen got starts but none were able to push on. Just as Brentwood thought they had won Shah (28) and Brian Martin put on 30 for the last wicket before Puchakayala returned to hand the 5s a 16 run defeat (Scorecard)

The Sunday league side sealed qualification for the end of season play offs with victroy against Belhus. Nicky Ison (107) and Tom Daniels (95) were the main contributors to a daunting total of 285/4 from 40 overs.
