After a perfect Saturday last weekend, it was a step backwards for many of Upminster’s senior sides in the latest round of matches. The 1st XI’s recent good form was brought to an end by Woodford Wells at Upminster Park. Wells’ overseas star Mitchell Todd was in sparkling form for the visitors as he made 143 from 126 balls. He received good support from Joe Johnson (51), and some late runs from George Ellis (31*) took the Wells total to 287 all out. Upminster’s spin quartet of Ollie Peck, Nicky Ison, James Aggio-Brewe and Nabeel Aziz took eight of the wickets to fall, with Peck’s 3-43 the stand out figures. The Upminster chase was a story of what might have been, as seven batsmen made double figures but only one went past 30, with Aziz’s 36 being the top score. Farzand Shah was the star performer for Wells with the ball, claiming 4-39 as Upminster were bowled out for 190. (Scorecard)

It was a similar story in the reverse fixture between the two clubs 2nd XIs at Monkhams Lane. Knut Wilmott made a sparkling, if not chanceless 74 for the Wells and Rehan Iqbal made 72 as the home side looked like posting a huge score. Josh Lamont helped Upminster fightback with 4-48 but Will Rogers and Matthew Nobes accelerated again in the closing overs to help their side post 299-8. Upminster’s reply started at a rapid pace, but wickets fell to quickly for them to mount a serious challenge. Jordan Tigg batted calmly to make a very good unbeaten 63, but Lamont was the only other man to pass 20 (21) and Billy Wright’s side were all out for 164. (Scorecard)

The 3rd XI took back over at the top of the table thanks to a hard-fought win over Harold Wood at Coopers. Upminster bowled and fielded well to restrict Wood to 139-9 from their 45 overs, before Harvey Daniels, Rob Mack, Dan Simpson and captain Oliver White helped to see them to a five wicket win. The 4th XI’s unbeaten run came to an end with defeat at Frenford. Ryan Brown made early inroads into the Frenford batting, but a fourth wicket partnership between Daniel Oliver (91) and Ranjan Gulati (53) started to take the game away from Upminster. Nathan Bright took two late wickets for the visitors, but 36 from Qasim Nawaz helped Frenford post a competitive 245-7. Upminster lost early wickets in their reply, but Ian Munn stood firm to keep his side in the game. Matt Mccarthy (32) gave good support, and Munn went on reach his first half century for the Club. He eventually fell for 76 and although Luke Williams made 35, Upminster fell just short on 220-9 to lose by 25 runs. (Scorecard)

The other winners of the day were the 5th XI who won their mid table contest with Loughton. That didn’t look like it would be the case early on as Upminster lost six quick wickets, but 40 from David Cowley and 18 from Dave Brown lifted them to 131 and gave them something to bowl at. Michael Jones and Brian Martin blew away the Loughton top order with three wickets apiece, before Shreyansh Shah and Cowley them mopped up the table to bowl out at Loughton for 63. (Scorecard)
