Firebirds & Kings defeated in low scoring thrillers

The final group games for 4 of the Windmill Whack sides took place on Sunday with finals day places the target.

The 1st match saw the Govani Maestros defeat the Kalijeera Kings. The Kings batted first and fell to 16/3 with Ryan Brown taking the first 3 wickets before Frank Hazle and Arun Kullar put on 43 to rebuild. Jordan Tigg and Josh Lamont took their wickets but scrabbling by the lower order made sure the Kings reached 96.

In reply Nathan Woods and Paul Stratton put on 50 for the 1st wicket with Woods the aggressor retiring on 50 off 27 balls. After Woods retirement the Kings took 3 quick wickets from Ellis PIckering before Alex Mitchell and Tigg put on 25 to see the Maestros through by 6 wickets. (Scorecard)

The 2nd match between the Hunter Hurricanes and Apple Financial Firebirds was a low scoring thriller. The firebirds struggled especially against overseas player Glen Noller (3/12) but a final over of 19 hit by Joe Simpson and Don Triggs set a winning target of 96.

In reply the Hurricanes batted carefully against tight Firebirds bowling with Steve Limn and Matt Tigg taking few chances. The dismissal of Limn gave the firebirds hope as they lost regular wickets and when Ollie White dismissed Tigg for a patient 34 the Hurricanes were 6 down. Skipper Jack O'Dowd and Michael Larke tried to force the run rate required to a manageable level and with some powerful strikes and also skillful use of the bats edge took the runs required to 2 off the last over which they nudged their way to.
