Apple Finance Firebirds skipper James Evans looks ahead to this Sunday's Windmill Whack action

This Sunday sees the club host the second edition of Windmill Whack Finals Day. Action starts at 12:00 noon with the semi-final between the Govani Maestros and the Hunter Hurricanes. The winners will then progress to face the Chairman's Choice in the final at 16:00. Bar will be open for refreshments and the BBQ will be running all afternoon.

Govani Maestros

Claimed victory over the Hurricanes in the group stages so should expect to progress to the Final. A powerful batting line up, which includes overseas star James Redwood, should see them post a big total. May be hit hard by the unavailability of star wicket keeper Alan Ison

Star player – James Redwood - Has proved a useful all rounder this year

One to watch– Nathan Woods- The little man with the big shots is ideally suited to the shorter game with his 6 hitting power and electric fielding

Hunter Hurricanes

Under the intelligent leadership of top 10 university educated Jack O’ Dowd, the Hunters narrowly progressed to the Final by sneaking past fans favourites the Apple Finance Firebirds. Very strong bowling line up with lots of quality spinners, but batting slightly suspect, will do well to reach the Final

Star player – Shafiq Rahman - Still rolling back the years, can hopefully get the day off work

One to watch – Thomas Larke - By far the best left arm spinner at the Club

Chairman's Choice

The team everyone loves to hate, but the bookmakers refuse to take bets on them reclaiming last year's title!!! The Galacticos of the competition have strengthened this year with the arrival of Premier League winning Wanstead captain Joe Ellis-Grewal to add to ex Essex 2nd XI star Terry Wyatt, 1st XI star batsman Shahbaz Butt, former League Representative Team seamer John Curtis and ex 1st XI captain Oliver Trump. Captain Paul Middlemiss will be hoping to finally win something after narrowly missing out on numerous 3rd XI titles and the 1996 Matchplay Final

Star player – Shahbaz Butt - Guaranteed 50 at the top of the order

One to watch – Mark Jolly - Despite his 90’s style hair do he can prove a useful all rounder if opposition focus on the Galacticos and ignore him
