Tense victory sees Upminster progress to Final, but disappointment for Matchplay Team

The Under 9s reached the Final of the Don Coates Trophy with a 2 run victory over South Loughton at Upminster Park on Sunday morning. South Loughton batted first and managed to make 316-6 from their 20 overs to finish on a net score of 286. In reply Upminster started steadily and their 3rd and 4th pairs managed to get them near to their target. The last pair then put them in front before seeing out the final over to secure a nail-biting win (scoring 308-4 for a net score of 288). (Scorecard)

Congratulations to both teams on producing an excellent contest and playing the game in a great spirit throughout.

It was disappointment on Monday for the Matchplay Team as they lost their Quarter Final to Saffron Walden. Despite three wickets for Ollie Woods and two for Ryan Brown Saffron made 228-7 thanks to a fine century from their opening batsman. Kiran Kullar and Jake Giddings made a solid start to the Upminster reply but they then collapsed to 73-5. Woods (37) and Ellis Pickering (51*) battled back but the run rate was just to much and Upminster finished on 186-6. (Scorecard)

Best of luck to Saffron Walden in their semi final encounter with Loughton.
