Tight defeat to Southend leaves side in trouble, but 2nd XI march on

It was another narrow loss for the 1st XI as they slipped to a three wicket defeat at Southend. Seven batsmen made double figures but Shaffiq's 32 was the top score as Upminster struggled to 196 all out at Southchurch Park. Southend began their reply well but John Curtis and Conor Whetstone led an Upminster fightback to give the visitors hope. However, 55 from Ollie Wagstaff and an unbeaten 21 from Sam Rowe saw the home side to a crucial win. (Scorecard)

The 2nd XI's good form continued with a victory over Ilford in a low scoring contest at Upminster Park. Batting first only Nicky Ison made an impression for the home side as his 30 helped his team climb to a competitive 165. Ison then played his part in an excellent team effort with the ball, taking 3-36, as Ilford were bowled out for 135. (Scorecard)

There was a heartbreaking defeat for the 3rd XI as they lost to champions elect Brentwood by three wickets. Pete Thompson and Nikhil Mayor both made excellent half centuries as Upminster battled to 171-6 from their 45 overs at Coopers School. The home side then bowled and fielded superbly to restrict the table toppers who required 57 from the last seven overs, before Paul Degg cut loose and smashed 56 to help his side to a narrow win. The 4th XI moved a step nearer the title with a solid performance at Walthamstow. Stow were always struggling with the bat and three wickets for Nathan Bright saw them bowled out for 116. Steve Limn made exactly 50 as Upminster chased victory, and the veterans Paul Stratton and Rob Bannister calmly saw them to a five wicket success. (Scorecard)

The 5th XI kept alive their outside chances of promotion with a win over Wanstead. The evergreen Kevin Roome picked up three wickets and Ollie Woods and Sam Twine nabbed two each as Wanstead collapsed to 112 all out. The experience of Mike Larke, Ian Munn and Dave Brown then helped Upminster to a four wicket win. (Scorecard)

There was a first defeat in two months for the 6th XI as they were well beaten by Brentwood. Don Triggs and Will Frost were amongst the wickets for Ray Calder's side but Brentwood were still able to reach 214. Only Matt Bright showed much resistance in the Upminster chase as they were rolled out for 76. (Scorecard)
