Pickering and Rahman lead the way in much needed victory

When Shahbaz was dismissed from the first ball of the day at Upminster Park it seemed highly unlikely that six hours later the home side would be celebrating their second Premier Division win of the season. However, fine performances from Louis Pickering and Shaffiq Rahman meant that Upminster overcame the side who led the table at the start of play.

Pickering (97) and Rahman (50) shared a second wicket stand of 145 and with Terry Wyatt and Frank Hazle then making important contributions at the end of the innings Upminster were able to make 245 before being dismissed in the last of their 50 overs. Chelmsford started their reply in positive fashion but when Rahman (5-25) dismissed Jack Sterland for 40 the visitors collapsed from 52-0 to 132-9 and despite a valiant last wicket stand they were bowled out for 163 to give Upminster a much needed win, by 82 runs. The 2nd XI fell to defeat in the reverse fixture at Chelmer Park despite Farid continuing his remarkable run of form. The opener made 61 and with help from Rob Waghorn, Mark Schofield, Aaron Kullar and Nathan Woods Upminster reached 254-8 from their 45 overs. It seemed like a competitive total but Dave Thrift, Miles Clark and Chris Thanos made light work of the challenge as the home side cruised home with six wickets and five overs to spare. (Scorecard)

The result of the 3rd XI encounter between the two clubs at Coopers School turned out to be insignificant after young bowler Oliver White was taken to hospital as the game moved towards its conclusion. White was struck on the head in the Upminster innings as the home side struggled to 133-9. He was later then feeling unwell in the field as Chelmsford replied, and with medical attention being required for White on the ground the game was abandoned, and with Chelmsford well on course for victory at 95-4 the win was awarded to the visitors. We are pleased to confirm that following a visit to Queens Hospital Oliver is fine and back at home and we would like to thank everyone concerned with the match for their patience and understanding. The 4th XI suffered their first defeat of the season against Ilford 3s, but there was a win for the 5th XI against Fives and Heronians. Ollie Woods, Kevin Roome and Aalok Latey picked up three wickets each as ten man Fives were shot out for just 57. In reply Upminster slipped to 9-4 but Casey Adams and captain Scott Fisher saw them home without further alarm. (Scorecard)

There was also a first win of the season for the 6th XI as they overcame Harlow Town to pick up 20 points. The Calders, Ray and Ben, all made important contributions as Upminster made 181-9 from their 40 overs. Dave Brown, Ben Hamberger, Alex Fisher and Matther Bright then shared the wickets as Town were shot out for 91. (Scorecard)

Sunday saw the Sunday League side pick up a win over Belhus thanks to 53 from Josh Lamont and four wickets from Julian Whetstone. The victory keeps them in the hunt for the end of season play offs.

And 13 year old Ellis Pickering made his maiden senior half century (73) as the Sunday 2nd XI lost out in a a friendly in Rayleigh. (Scorecard)
