Centuries for Rob White, Alfie James and Nikhil Mayor.

It was a frustrating day for the 1st on Saturday as they fell to a one wicket defeat against Billericay. Shahbaz Butt once again continued his fine batting form with another half century with Julian Whetstone also contributing 43 as Upminster was bowled out for 183. Billericay got off to a perfect start and found themselves 120/0 with a victory seeming almost certain. Once Upminster took their first wicket, they managed to make huge inroads with Connor Whetstone and Matthew Tigg taking three wickets each. John Curtis returned to the attack and picked up two more to leave Billericay 9 down. It wasn’t quite close enough for Upminster despite the great fightback as Billericay sealed the victory in the final over.

Robert White was the star of the show for the 2nd XI on Saturday as he recorded his first ever ton. Batting at number six, Robert came in and was positive and aggressive from ball one. Robert found great support in Junaid Sarwar (47) and Nicky Ison (44) as the two partnerships put on a combined 180 runs. Robert’s innings lasted 77 balls and in that time he hit 19 fours and 2 sixes in his brutal 108. Chingford seemed to be chasing down the target of 282 with some ease and at one stage the game seemed finished at 230/3 but some accurate bowling from Mark Schofield and James Gerritse got Upminster back into the game. Schofield dismissed the two set batsman and James Gerritse took care of the tail, taking the final two wickets in the last over to seal a famous victory.

Upminster 3rd XI breezed home to a very easy 25 points on Saturday thanks to centuries from Nikhil Mayor and Alfie James. Mark D’Cruz took three wickets as the Upminster bowlers made light work of the Shenfield batsman, dismissing them for 38 in just under 20 overs.

Steve Limn’s 4th XI held on for a hard fought draw against Wanstead on Saturday. Rob Bannister made a successful return to cricket action after spending a couple weeks on the gin and tonics as he picked up 4-40 in his 12 overs. Karim Govani also took 3 wickets as Upminster bowled out Wanstead for 199. Kiran Kullar made a solid start to the innings with a patient 34 off 94 balls. The rock of the Upminster innings was Paul Stratton who batted with great skill and concentration to finish on 62* off 115 balls as Upminster finished on 181/8.

Joe Simpson took his first ever five wicket haul on Saturday as his spell ripped through the Ilford top-order. Batting first, Upminster knocked up 246 in their 45 overs with contributions from Hortop (49), McCarthy (57) and Khan (55). After Joe Simpson tore apart the top order, Ross Milroy and Ryan Brown finished the job as Ilford were dismissed for 161.

George Sadek scored his first ever half-century on Saturday as he opened the innings for the 6th XI. George (68) and 34 from Callum Hall wer the main contributors to Upminsters total of 176. Sohail Iqbal picked up three wickets but it wasn’t enough as GPR chased the score down with 20 overs to go.
