Hunters pick up opening day victory but Tandoori Boys slide to defeat

There were mixed fortunes for Upminster’s senior indoor sides on Sunday, with one win and one defeat in the opening round of matches.

The Hunters picked up a late evening win over last year’s champions Willingale at Ingatestone. Willingale batted first but were up against from the start against a disciplined Upminster attack. Tom Silvester made 22 for Gale, but two wickets from Nicky Ison meant the 2018 winners were bowled out for 65. Upminster’s reply got off to an excellent start thanks to Louis Pickering and Mike Larke. Larke eventually fell for 23 but Pickering went on to safely reach the retirement mark. He wasn’t needed though as Ison and Scott Fisher took Upminster to a five wicket win with nearly two overs to spare.

A young Tandoori Boys team fell to a four wicket win in an excellent game against Beaulieu Park at Shenfield. Captain Ian Munn got Upminster off to a good start and some late hitting from 13 year old Nathan French helped the side 98-5 in their 12 overs. Park started well and looked to be cruising to victory before tight spells from Sam Twine and Will Frost built up the pressure, leading to two run outs. However, Nick Watson held his nerve and saw his side to victory with seven balls remaining.

Both sides are in action again this Sunday (Details).
