6 WINS A ROW AS ISON GOES SIX MENTAL AGAINST HARLOW

Upminster 1st XI made it six wins a row on Saturday thanks to a blistering 64* from captain Alan Ison to chase down a revised target. Will Chuter picked up two wickets in his opening spell but Upminster only picked up three more with Matt Tigg also taking two as Harlow made 254 in their 50 overs. Upminster’s opening batsman Butt (50) and Rahman (46) got the chase off to a solid start and were in a good position at 120/2 before the rain came. The revised target was 194 from 38 overs with Ison and Hazel at the crease. Alan Ison set it upon himself to be the man to see Upminster over the line as he hit seven sixes in a rapid 35 ball knock to chase down the total with ease, in front of a boisterous Upminster crowd.

The 2nd XI made it three wins in four on Saturday in a very close game with Ilford. James Evans looked back to his best with a well-made 79 as Upminster continued their refusal to get 200 runs and finished on 198/5. 14 year old Alfie James made an impressive 25 on his 2nd XI debut. Only 22.3 overs were possible in the Ilford innings and when the big downpour came, Ilford were 4 runs behind which resulted in Upminster picking up the victory.

It was a day to forget for the 3rd XI over Nutter Lane on Saturday. Mark D’Cruz elected to bat first and watched on painfully as all batsman failed to get going except for Rob Waghorn who scored a patient 50. After 45 overs, Upminster finished on 124/9. Tom Daniels and Karim Govani both picked up a brace but it was never enough as Wanstead chased him with ease in 23.2 overs.

Steve Limn will look back on Saturdays game as one they should have won after posting 224. Jamie O’Dell swashbuckled his way to 75 with Sam Langston also hitting 44. The Upminster bowlers lacked the control throughout with only Nathan Bright’s 12 over spell being the highlight as he finished with 2-22 in 12 overs. Southend-on-Sea won by 5 wickets with 8 balls to go.

Upminster 5th XI maintained their top of the table status with another win, this time against Shenfield. Ryan Brown was the star with the ball, the young lad finished with 4-14 off 8.5 overs as Upminster bowled out Shenfield for 122. The top 3 of Hortop, Wyatt and Bottoms did the job for Upminster. Alex Bottoms was not out at the end finishing on 33, just after Mark Hortop chose to cut his off stump in half to be dismissed for 47.

Upminster 6th XI were put in by Harlow Town on Saturday and they lost opener Ian Twine for 0 when he was adjudged LBW by umpire Ben Kinder, which was a surprise. Casey Adams was the only batsman to hit a score of note as he made 60 in Upminster’s total of 150. Joe Tyler took a brace for Upminster but Harlow Town eventually chased down the score to win by 5 wickets.
