Saturday 14th May Review

A fantastic all-round performance from captain Alan Ison was the backbone to Upminster 1st XI first league win of the season. Hadleigh elected to bat first over Upminster Park and got off to a solid start before Ison came on first change and took 3 quick wickets. Matt Tigg did the damage during the middle part of the innings taking 5-58 in a tight 16 over spell. Too much frustration, Hadleigh put on an unbroken 50 run partnership for the last wicket to finish on 171-9 in their 50 overs.

In reply, Shahbaz Butt and Frankie Hazle fell early but a 50 run partnership between Shaf Rahman and Alan Ison put Upminster in a strong position. Alan Ison was joined by vice-captain Harry Jenkins (28) at the crease and the pair put on 68 to take Upminster to the brink of victory. Alan Ison finished on a match winning 90* including 5 sixes to see Upminster home to a well-earned win. (Scorecard)

Upminster 2nd XI endured a tough day over Chelmer Park against the ever strong Chelmsford. Nicky Ison chose to bat first but it was always a struggle for the batsman from the first over. Chelmsford bowled with great discipline and made it very hard for Upminster to score. James Aggio-Brewe top scored again with a skilful 41. James Evans also looked in good touch with 37 before he was run out in strange circumstances. A late partnership between Jack O’Dowd and Max Carter-Miller guided Upminster to 150/8.

Overall the Chelmsford batsman batted with more intent on a tricky sticky wicket and successfully chased down the score in 30.5 overs. Billy Wright bowled a decent spell and picked up a brace. (Scorecard)

The 3rd XI made light work of a poor Loughton 3rd XI side with a convincing 9 wicket win that was all over by 15:30. Loughton were bowled out for a feeble 75 in 24.2 overs with Karim Govani and Oliver Peck taking 3 wickets each. Janhoi-Bean Wilson led the chase for Upminster with a quick 46* off 25 balls and was well supported by Kiran Kullar (8*) to record the 3rd XI 2nd win of the season. (Scorecard)

Stewart Hammond was the star of the 4th XI impressive win over Harold Wood. The club stalwart made 87* in Upminster’s total of 209/5. He found an ally in Nikhil Mayor who scored 43 with twenties from Waghorn and Hortop. It took 38 overs for Upminster to bowl out Harold Wood and collect 25 points. Oliver White lead the attack and finished with fantastic figures of 3-17 off 10 overs including 5 maidens. George Sadek also picked up 3 wickets and the evergreen Kevin Roome also chipping in with 2. (Scorecard)

Paul Middlemiss and Mike Harrison both scored centuries in Upminster’s grand total of 334/3. Middlemiss innings was the foundation for the big total as he put on decent partnerships with Wyatt and Giddens. A 137 run partnership for the 3rd wicket between the two centurions cemented Upminster’s strong position. A late cameo from Rob Bannister (46*) put the cherry on top of a huge score for Upminster to defend. Sadly the bowlers had the same amount of luck as the Loughton bowlers as they only took 4 wickets in 45 overs. Paul Stratton was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-24 in 7 overs as the game finished a draw with the 5th taking home 9 points. (Scorecard)
