ROOT 66'ERS CRUISE HOME AGAINST MAESTROS

The Costcutter Cobras made it two wins in two after another impressive bowling performance reduced the Kalijeera Kings to just 124 in their 20 overs. Will Chuter took the big wicket of star-man Frankie Hazle when he produced an edge which was well caught by Matt Tigg. Jake Giddings top scored for the Kings with an impressive 45 as the Cobras spinners kept the pressure on throughout. The shot of the day went to Jeff Mack who smashed his first ball into the Kalijeeras kitchen. In reply, Hainault and Clayhall’s John French smashed 45 in the powerplay to keep the Cobras up with the rate. A few wickets faltered the progress but the run-rate was never out of hand. Matt Tigg made 25 and Steve Limn (18*) was the man to see the Cobras home with 2 balls to go.

Man of the Match- John French- 45 (35)

The Root 66’ers won their first game of the tournament with a 6 wicket win over the Govani Maestros. The Maestros struggled to get going throughout their innings and could only score at a run a ball. Alex Ward top scored with 36 and he found good support in Paul Stratton who made 33. Janhoi Bean-Wilson took three sharp stumpings whilst Julian Whetstone also picked up 3 wickets as the Maestros set the Root 66’ers 132 to win.
Alan Ison picked up two early wickets with two successful and very plumb leg before wicket appeals. The Maestros only picked up two more wickets as the Root 66’ers cruised the chase. Julian Whetstone followed up his 3 wickets with 30 and Nigel O’Dell rolled back the years with some glorious drives as he finished 29*. Skipper Harry Jenkins finished off the chase with successive boundaries of Paul Scott to seal victory.
