KINGS DEFEND 172 IN CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Terry Wyatt showed his class as the Chairman’s Choice picked up their first Whack win on Sunday. On a difficult slow pitch, Wyatt smashed 51 from 35 balls to lay the platform for the Choice. The Root 66’ers tightened proceedings up during the middle overs with Tom Daniels only going for 20 in his four over spell. Some late boundaries from Abbas and Will Epsom lifted the Chairman’s Choice to 146 in their 20 overs. Elliot Bussey and Mark D’Cruz both picked up two wickets also.
In reply, the Root 66’ers who were missing all their star players really struggled to gain any momentum. Elliot Bussey and Nigel O’Dell both scored 31 but it was never enough. Nathan Bright conceded only 13 runs from his 4 overs and he was well supported by Casey Adams who picked up three wickets as the Choice eased to a 19 run victory.

Man of the Match- Terry Wyatt- 51*. 1-15

In the basking late afternoon sun, the Kalijeera Kings faced off against the Apple Finance Firebirds in what was to be the highest scoring match of the tournament so far. Frankie Hazle was in brutal form as he smashed his way to his 50 retirement in just 27 balls which included 9 boundaries. Billy Gordon was the next star player in and he quickly went about his business with two early sixes but he soon departed off the experienced Kevin Roome, caught by Oliver White for 26. UCC Hall of Famer Steve Mack anchored the innings for a well-made 40 as the Kings racked up 172.
James Evans and Joe Wyatt opened for the Firebirds and smashed it from the go putting on 80 for the first wicket in the first 8 overs. The introduction of Arun Kullar changed the game as he smartly caught and bowled Joe Wyatt for 38. He also took the wickets of Rising and Evans as the Firebirds were back behind the rate. Will Bottoms (33) and Paul Hogg (18) kept the pressure on but the Firebirds finished just short as the Kings picked up the victory by 9 runs.

Man of the Match- Frankie Hazle, 51*, 2-19.
